This. As I said two years ago, he's a good depth, but not a starter. We need guys that can start on the D-line. Unless RJF is coming for veteran minimum, I don't see us bringing him in.

This. As I said two years ago, he's a good depth, but not a starter. We need guys that can start on the D-line. Unless RJF is coming for veteran minimum, I don't see us bringing him in.

Obviously he's not as good a player as RayMac, but this would be an ideal situation for RJF. Comes back to play for Tomsula and a defensive system he played well in.

The fact we don't have an established starter to take over for RayMac makes quality depth even more important. Create competition at the position, draft a player with starter ability, and may the best player win the spot.

I don't see him coming close to replacing McDonald who has to have been one of the most underappreciated players on any NFL team.

RJF makes for a good #3 DE, not a starter. Indy finally figured out that he was way overpaid for his level of production.

This. Unless he's coming in for real cheap, I think the 49ers are better off long-term with those snaps going to Carradine, Dial and any potential draft picks.

Yup. He'd have to sign a reasonable contract at this point.

Anybody else see Dial as our starter at NT. I think he did a good job last year, has the size over Dorsey/Williams

Oddly enough, I think he may be a bit too tall (playing wise) to hold down that position. Every time I see him out there he's upright. You can get away with that as a DE (inside outside shade) but, not as a DT.

But I'm not a D-line expert.

Dial and tank are both better ends IMO. Dial hits harder and is a good tackler and tank is a very good pass rusher that is solid vs the run. I think rjf would be good for 2-3 mil a year as a good rotational player with any of the 3 dl positions

If there is anything we should have learned the past 2-3 years Is one or more of our D-line will go down with an injury. When you play the cheat hawks 2 times a year, there dirty play will take out someone.
