So what then? Did rehab mitigate a full season ban? Wow. He's so full of s**t.

Don't worry guys this will be immediately appealed and he won't miss the first game. It's all for complete shock and awe effect. Gotohell completely overcompensated with a huge make up call for the stupidity of the puny Ray Rice suspension.

I didn't say he did.I said even if a PLAYER does. Even if it is true that 's what motivated Aldon it doesn't matter. People with substance abuse issues will have their denial demolished once in rehab. They could be motivated to go because "there's hot chicks" there. It doesn't matter. A good rehab will get through to people more times than not. NFL players and anyone in any job in general, if they have substance abuse issues, should be encouraged to go to rehab not punished for it.

That's my point though. I don't think Goodell is concerned about encouraging players to go to rehab. He concerned with preventing the situation that would lead to a player going to rehab. His role is punitive as opposed to the FO who are in the position to encourage the player.

Except that he's on record for saying that his goal in suspensions is to correct behavior, not punish it. He just sent a really bad message to young men about personal accountability. What a f**king tool.

The NFLPA had better file an appeal on this. It's ridiculous.

And could some people stop pretending that it's a lot worse than Lynch. The current DUI is Lynch's second. Not his first. And, he's already been suspended for a weapons felony, not a misdemeanor. He's also been involved in an altercation with a woman. So, let's just see what they have in store for Lynch and it had better be comparable.
Lynch's rap sheet is longer than I thought.

But here's the thing: it's not fair to say, 'look at all this stuff that happened to Lynch, he was only suspended 3 games'. At the time of his suspension, not all of those incidents had occurred (in particular, the second DUI). With Smith, all four incidents had already occurred, so they were taken into consideration when Goodell levied his suspension. Personally, I think Lynch should be suspended additional games, but it's not fair to compare the two situations straight up.

From what I hear, Aldon Smith's settlement lets him be around the team and do meetings. Just can't play in games.

As for lighter punishment for Aldon Smith through an appeal, NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said in an email "The appeal process is concluded."

Whaat?? I didn't know about gun charges / a second DUI for Lynch.

I was going to say google but ill help you out

Multiple Multiple Multiple Multiple offender.......3 games

By far the best comparison I have seen. I am baffled.

somebody start tweeting that to the commish and faxing it every hour to the league office
the weapons charges were pure b******t. b******t California laws that im not even sure are constitutional and they got reduced anyway. most other states it would not have been a problem. the worst thing he did was the second dui. and he voluntarily went to rehab. old rog is a stinky hairy s**t stinking up the nfl!
OK. Can someone explain what the suspension actually allows/prohibits? Can he be on the sidelines, meeting rooms, etc. or is he banished to his living room until November? Thanks.

The five games Aldon Smith missed last season while voluntarily seeking assistance for alcohol abuse did not impact his punishment

Yeah, I'm sure that will help the precedent. You get f**ked eitherway.

That's pretty stupid of Goodell. Lol
I don't have a problem with Any length of suspension. If he don't want suspended then don't be a dumb ass. It's easy.
Ian Rapoport ‏@RapSheet now
Aldon Smith does get to be around the facility for his 9-game suspension, I'm told. That's something the team wanted very b

FPHUCK Goodell. This is BS. I figured 4 games max. Dang!! Aldon shouldn't appeal it. We need Lemon And LYNCH to Really pick it up and we need Ahmad to stop eating Twinkies.
