Yes he will because nobody is gonna pay him to be a feature back.

He wont be paid like a feature back but he will be paid pretty good to be part of a 1-2 combo not part of 3 headed attack as he probably would be if he signed here

Val is right, this is maybe the one FA thread so far where I actually liked the player in our system but he is to proven in short yards to go cheap.
I think he is the perfect role player because you can't pre- snap read with him on the field. He is a very productive back and makes great gametime decisions. I have watched SD games and don't remember MT ever make misstakes.

I know he's not the only missing piece but he would be a huge factor to greatly improve our offense.

Sign him to a multi-year deal..., MULTICHAMPIONSHIP!

I would take it a step further and say he (or someone like him) might be the most important piece we pick up this offseason.

Frank is the man, but can get injured. Tolbert has shown that he can carry the load for stretches and can be the bruiser that Dixon never turned out to be. He can spell Frank, and with Hunter acting as a "change of pace" back it reminds me a lot of what the Saints had a few years ago with Bush.

I wouldn't say that you couldn't find someone like Tolbert in the draft or that there might not be another free agent that could fill the spot, but in my mind he is the best option to fill in all the holes we are missing in the run game . . . and lets face it, we can sign Moss, Rice, T.O. and Megatron, and we're not going to throw like the Saints. We are grounded in the running game. Tolbert also has some experience, and as we saw with the Kyle Williams experiment, a little experience can go a long way.
Come on Baalke sign this tank.
My roommate is a diehard Chargers fan so next to the Niners I know the Chargers better than any other team. I've watched, and loved, Tolbert the last few years and I completely agree that he would be perfect for us. Yes, he is one of the best backs in the league in short yardage situations, but I've seen that guy operate as a complete back too many times to count. That little bowling ball never ceases to amaze me. He picks up blocks well (he was their 3rd down back all last season cuz Matthews can't block for his life) and he's incredibly underrated in the passing game. He had 53 catches for 433 yards last year! (http://www.nfl.com/player/miketolbert/2507428/profile)

If Peyton Hillis just got a 3 mil per season deal I don't see why there's any reason to expect that Tolbert would ask for more than that. He could easily split carries with Hunter when gore is gone, a little thunder and lightning, while giving us an elite stable of runners. It might be too much to tie up into running backs to really expect them to sign him, but I would drink (another) six pack in his honor if Baalke found a way to bring Tolbert into the fold.

If he can be the starter in 2013 or 2014 I think he might. Sign him to a 4 year deal with low cap numbers for 2012 and 2013, and bump it up big time for 2014 and 2015 when gores contract expires.

Tolber/Hunter, good combination.

3rd and goal, bring in tolbert.

Need a tought yard bring in Tolbert

Need a TD bring in Tolber

110% agree, would love to have him but he will want more than we can pay a 3rd RB/ST guy. He will look to start or be a 1-2 punch guy.
Gore's contract was pretty cap friendly. If they somehow sign Tolbert that would be a great move in my opinion because you know they would only sign him for the right contract.

If he is seriously considering being the 3rd option in KC, I can't imagine his contract demands would be very high, and would probably have a lot better chance to actually play and go to a SB in SF!
Intruiging. Not going to lose sleep on this.
this could be a key move...bring him in

Meh never mind...http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2012/03/15/chargers-in-contract-talks-to-keep-mike-tolbert/

Overrating who? Goldson? You do realize that that is a play from 2010, when Goldson hadn't reached his potential yet.

And what do you expect when a 250 pound FB known for bustin fools like Tolbert comes in contact with a skinny ass FS?? LOL
