Vincent Jackson is the missing piece for the 49ers

Money isn't guaranteed so it really doesn't matter THAT much. For instance the Raiders just cut Stanford Routt 1 year into a 5 year $54 mil deal. The Raiders once cut DeAngelo Hall 8 games into a 7 year contract.

Just cuz you sign a long term deal doesn't mean your getting that money or those years. If the performance doesn't match the pay you just cut him and move on.

There is some risk because too much of this can mess with your salary cap but it's not as much of a risk as you are suggesting.

How has Aaron Rodgers been a better QB dince '06? He didn't even start playing 'til 08. For the 47th time, find me more than 3 or 4 QB's that have better combined stats if you sum up he six seasons SINCE OH SIX.

1) Brees
2) Brady
3) Rodgers
4) Manning when healthy
5) Eli - 2 Super Bowl wins now. Hard to call him not elite.
6) Roethlisburger

You can shift the first 3 around in a different order. But I don't see Rivers as top 5.

For whatever reason Rivers had 1 bad year. It's undeniable that he was a top 5 quarterback the prior 3 years in San Diego so the guys argument about Jackson's production stands.

4,000 + yards, 28 + touchdowns, 100 rating in all 3 years. Outside of this year you have no argument. Special teams is actually been their killer and considering how much they helped us this year you should probally take note of it's importance.

JUST SAY NO! TO VINCENT JACKSON KIDS!

This guy is not as good as people make him out to be, He has a top 5 QB and arguably the best TE in the game, and a good running game, and STILL disappears in games.... he is the best physical specimen at WR since TO, but I question his desire to be great.

Please PASS!

Gates has been hurt a lot the last few years and missed some games and the Chargers running game has been so-so the last 2 or 3 years. Vincent Jackson is a beast! Look at the numbers when he plays and when he does not for the Chargers and Phillip Rivers. Vincent Jackson is the missing piece for the 49ers.
Vincent Jackson also plays his best in big games. Look at this past season for example; @ New England: 10 catches 172yds, 2TD's; Vs Green Bay: 7 catches, 141yds, 3TD's; AT Chicago 7 Catches 165yds, 1td. Vs Baltimore: 3 Catches 94yds. The guy is a player. A playmaker. Just what the 49ers need.

When you face double coverage as much as he does that's gonna happen at times. And also most of the load in SD has been on him of late because the running game has been mediocre the last 2-3 years and Gates has been hurt as well. It's foolish to think he's worth passing on, he's the best fit for the niners because he brings speed and size as well as leaping ability. He's a fit here because with Vernon Davis he'd eliminate the double coverage creating more opportunities for our offense we need more playmakers if they have size it's all the more better. What Jackson brings is great ability to create separation and overcome double coverage a majority of the time he's always a threat to get in the end zone.

What Super Bowls did the lord of no rings win? Perhaps I missed it and you can fill me in..... I just showed you a bunch of guys who have Super Bowl titles. What has Rivers ever done when it counted?

Phillip Rivers is a great qB but he's not top 3 like the other poster said.
1. Rodgers
2. Brees
3. Brady
Eli, ben roethlisberger
then Rivers

He's probably top 6 or 7 but before this year he was arguably top 3 or 4.
He put up a 102 qb rating 4700 yards 30+ Tds with scrubs like patrick crayton and randy Mcmichael staring because of Gates' injury and V-jaxs holdout

Is it his fault his special teams sucked last year? He was great last year and is one of the most accurate QBs in the league

You're right Dan Marino was a terrible quarterback who couldn't get the ball to his receivers.

Phil Sims, Mark Rypien were much better quarterbacks.

We're breaking down regular season stats here for Vincent Jackson so why I am supposed to break down Phillip River's post season performances? Before this year he's top 5. The stats don't lie. They're not misleading either. 100 rating while leading one of the best offenses in the league. Their struggles were mostly on special teams.

He's never won anything. NEVER! And he's a career underachiever. Routinely getting beat out by lessor teams like they did with the Broncos this year. They underachieve in the playoffs and sometimes underachieve so much they don't even make the playoffs. He has to bear some responsibility there.

Rivers was barely a top 5 QB last year... Rodgers/Brees/Manning/Brady were all heads and shoulders above him. Rivers was more like ranked above Eli and Ben, but in that same tier. And after this year, I'd put him below Eli and Ben, and maybe even below Stafford as well.

I could point fingers all around the organization. What has Norv Turner ever done? He's a 3 time underachiever at coach. Tom Brady has Adam Vinateri. Phillip Rivers has Nate Kaeding. What did Drew Brees do in San Diego? Put up stats and underachieve as a team. Doesn't sound much different than Rivers?

BTW underachieving in the playoffs is subjective. Some teams are built for the playoffs others aren't. See the Giants. 2 Super Bowls with a 10-6 and a 9-7 record. San Diego lost to the Patriots twice, the Jets, and the Steelers. That's 4 teams that are clearly built for the playoffs.
