Jaguars release David Garrard

Miami - Henne is arguably the worst starter in the league. Garrard is a massive upgrade and is local.
Cincinnati - Dalton isn't quite ready. He'd be able to start and Dalton could learn.
Detroit - Insurance for injury-prone Stafford.
Seattle - Could easily start if Jackson falters.
Cleveland - Insurance for McCoy
Carolina - Insurance for Newton (whether injury or poor play)

I think he goes to the Dolphins. He'll start EASILY there once Henne has a bad game.

Yep. I think we're a longshot - just on the geographical distance.
Harbaugh and Baalke have to sell him on the possibility that he can eventually start over Alex.

He better not go to Seattle

Gerrard may be a bit pricey for insurance...

Well then why not here? He would start easily once Alex has a bad game and get's his ass booed out of town again. I'm not sure what I think of the move though. hmmmm... I def would of liked it had this been a month or two ago.

Nah. Doubt he'll come here. Not to say that for us it wouldn't be a good move or something. If Alex faltered, we could lock up Garrard for 2011 and continue to let Kaepernick learn. But again, seriously doubt Garrard goes to the opposite side of the country when he could start in an instant for a team in his own backyard.

Not only is Henne terrible -- even worse than Alex, despite having Pro Bowl OL and WR -- they have no one behind him that has any real future. We are very much attached to Kaepernick and probably Tolzien right now. The Dolphins have only two QB's on their active roster. We know the first.. but the other? Matt Moore. Yeah. Garrard to Miami makes a TON of sense right now for all of these reasons.
A team has to want Garrard first, to claim him off waivers.

Quote:
Garrard was hit repeatedly in last week's preseason finale against St. Louis and had an animated exchange with his offensive line on the sideline.

That, too, had become an issue inside the facility, with Garrard pointing the finger more often than taking the blame. He blamed an interception against Atlanta on receiver Mike Thomas and then ripped the line for Thursday's problems.

Bengals, Bills, and Browns are higher than us on the waiver order right now.

We will put a claim in... there is no doubt.

Yeah really lame for them to do it this close to the season start.

I think while he does have to battle with another vet in alex smith here, we have our own pluses like: A great run game(especially if hunter emerges this year and gore stays healthy), solid pass rush/defense(didn't have that in jacksonville), talented receivers and a very winnable division. Whereas seattle may be easier to win the starting job, their defense and run game are mediocre.

Then we look at the divisions of the other teams on the list:
Miami- Fight with the jets and pats, mediocre defense keeps them from any real shot at beating those two.

Bengals- Steelers and ravens, again it's hard to keep up with defensive powerhouses like that. They also have a mediocre run game w/benson, and lost their two best receivers(even if AJ green is good that's tough).

Panthers- Falcons, saints, and last year's emerging team, the bucs. Unlike the previous two divisions those teams at least aren't defensive powerhouses, but offensively they can expect to overpower the panther's s**t secondary.

Lions- Could upset the bears this year, but that's still a very tough division w/vikes getting mcnabb and GB being a powerhouse. I think they're happy with what hill did for them last year when stafford got hurt and happy with stafford's potential.
From garrards point of view, two guys for him to fight against for starts AND a tough division. Not to mention Best seems to be injury prone so their ground game comes and goes.

All I'm saying is the Jags were 8-8 last year, but in a division with the Colts that's just not good enough. Seattle made the playoffs at 7-9 in our division. Jags scored 7 more TD's than any team in our division even with the 10 td dip in MJD's production.

If Garrard wants to make the playoffs he comes to our division, I think it's between us and seattle, and we should try to get him even if the reason is to keep him out of carroll's hands.

If the 49ers released Tolzien in favor of Gerard, the webzone might implode.

I'd rather keep Tolzien the Great over Kaep.

They can't release Tolzien. When you claim a player off waivers you have to keep him on your team for at least 2 weeks after.

If thats correct, then the 49ers will 100% not be sigining Gerard. They won't cut Alex. They can't cut Tolzien. They won't cut Kaep, and they wont carry 4 qbs on the roster.
now by him being released, can any team sign him or does he go through the waivers where teams can put a claim on him ? Not sure how that works. I certainly think we will be a favorite to pick him up.

Nevermind, I see my question has been answered in above Posts
