There had been hints that negotiations between the two sides had not been going well, but it was still assumed that Kreutz would ultimately be back in the Windy City for a 14th season. If he indeed is not, Roberto Garza, who has not started a game at center since 2005, would be the man to move to the middle for the Bears.

LOL. It's our "patience" strategy. Wait until the players we have interest in become entirely undesired by anyone else and then we swoop in and acquire the reject.
Ok, would you rather see Adam Snyder or Olin Kreutz?
Of course not. I'm poking fun at the 49ers extremely passive off-season strategy right now. I'll be as glad as the next fan if we get Kreutz, but I'm just trying to make light of our situation. We need starters at key positions, but we have unashamedly admitted we have no plans to really pursue anyone.
We are waiting out the majority of competition basically, for whatever players we have our eye on. Once everyone else is done making signings and shaping up their roster, the few decent players that remain -- if any -- will get some light contact from us.
This strategy will get you mostly stop-gaps who don't really desire to play for your team all that much, but don't have many options themselves. Sure it could work okay, and you could get decent production from decent players, but the lack of proactive thinking more often than not is an extreme detriment to your club. These guys will be in and out in a short amount of time. We want those who are committed to helping this team build itself towards competing for a championship. This strategy is not the way you do that.
