Samson Satele(-4.0), another below average guy but graded out better than Kreutz(-18.8) last year, just 26/27 years old
Jonathan Goodwin(-5.1), Saints C, gives up a big too much pressure but would stabilize the line a bit for a year or two if needed.

Those "grades" don't mean crap, all four of those guys were either cut or not resigned by their previous team and are all looking for work now. Facts are facts, Kruetz is the most experienced, more durable, most accomplished. He has played in a super bowl and has been on several play off teams. He plays with a mean streak and passion. I think he's a Harbaugh type of guy, meaning he will buy into the system and spread the gospel. Look beyond some generic grading system.

If we don't pick up some center in FA, this season is guna be pretty bad. Nothing against Snyder but he's just not a starter. Center is just critical. Teams constantly blitz us up the middle when we did have a semi-decent line last year.

Can you imagine plugging Snyder back in for the whole season? It's like we're going back in time. I don't mind a bunch of db rookies as much as botched snaps..penalties for movement..passes thrown away cuz of the QB hurries..omg that #$%@!% drives me crazy!

Free agent C Olin Kreutz is reportedly seeking a one-year, $4.5 million deal from the Bears.
That's $500,000 more than the Bears are offering. Although $500,000 is no small chunk of change, it would seem to be the least the Bears could spend to prevent their offensive line from falling into a state of chaos just six weeks before the start of the regular season. Talks between the two sides are reportedly dead, but it wouldn't be surprising if cooler hears soon prevailed

1. Snyder is a better lineman than Rachal and will start at RG if the team finds a starting center in free agency.

2. Teams blitzed the A gaps because Mike Singletary only wanted inside power runs. Harbaugh should be a little more creative hopefully.

Wonder if he'd even have interest is coming here if we increased that amount by a million - it's a short term solution but it's one we seem to desperately need.

Even though this thread is misplaced, I wanted to make a comment on Olin Kreutz. The Bears really missed him yesterday, as they struggled at the line of scrimmage with a variety of errant snaps.

More importantly, they miss his presence. Kreutz is one of the unquestioned leader in the locker room, is the guy who gets the team in order, fired up, and the young kids follow him the field like pups.

In the Chicago article, it states that the Niners have not even made an offer for Kreutz. If so, this continues to add to the stupidity of this front office. What better model for the young pups that he would play between (Iupati, Rachal, Davis) and the rookies could an organization find? The Bears are not offering more than $4 million for this year. And, it appears he wants to stay in Chicago, unlike Baas, who ran away as fast as possible. Kreutz wants $4.5 million. That is less than the average salary in Baas' contract (5 years, $26 million).

This is such a no-brainer that only the Niners' front office could screw this up.

He's going to and wants to resign with the Bears. They are only 500k apart.

Couple notes:

Spencer is probably the lead candidate, and the Saints and Goodwin are going to make the numbers work.

Satele is simply not very good.

Gil Brandt just said on Sirius that he thinks Olin will sign with the 49ers. Take it for what it's worth.
