If Justin Smith wants him up front, then so do I. Bring him back ASAP...

So if the Skins target Jenkins, who does that leave as a major FA competitor?
Bump

Competition for Franklin (or any quality starting DT)
Denver - went 4-3, but really neglected their DT positions... likely competition.
Houston - neglected the NT position for their new 3-4... likely competition.
KC - drafted late rounder Powe, but seriously could use Franklin at NT.
Seattle - will probably lose now disgruntled Mebane, and so will look hard for a better starter than young Bryant.
St. Louis - They are a real strong contender in the DT hunt, I would expect. Many had them targeting DT early in draft, but they added no one.
lesser competition, but don't dismiss them...
Cincinnati - could still use a quality DT in the starting line-up.
Philly - didn't address it, and are lacking at DT.
Carolina - drafted 2 rooks... could use immediate help at DT, but probably wouldn't fork over the money for AF.
Lots of other teams that drafted DT would still want more experience at DT right away. (Chi/Minny/Tenn/NYG/NYJ/Indy)

I'm assuming Franklin will go to the highest bidder and that will be a team that runs a 3-4. It's much harder to find a 3-4 NT than a 4-3 DT, thefefore I only see 3-4 teams as a legit possiblity.
I could see the Jets going after him now that you mention it, but I dont know if they could afford it. Houston seems like a real possiblity as well.
I'm so excited for this weekend!

DL - Kris Jenkins retires
http://www.nationalfootballpost.com/Report-Kris-Jenkins-decides-to-retire.html
Quote:
Kris Jenkins has announced he will retire from the game, according to Seth Markman of ESPN. That takes Kris Jenkins, who turns 32 next month, off the market. Kris Jenkins was knocked out early last season with the New York Jets when he suffered a torn ACL. A torn ACL in 2009 cost him more than half of that season, and apparently the run-stuffing nose tackle doesn’t want to give it a go again.

The article you quote says the Redskins are not that interested in Franklin if at all given the mistake they made on Albert Haynesworth.
Yes, it has apparently been updated to now say the Redskins interest is not what was previously speculated. Guess their "source" ( if they ever had one ) has been trumped. The whole article screamed of speculation from the start anyway... I just found the specific numbers for Franklin intriguing.
Keeping good players is important for success (of course), but at some point, there has to be considerations of how much a team is willing to overpay. (of course, again) If we could tender Franklin to a 1-year, 5 mil deal? I am feeling sure that we would... but we can't. We would have to lock him up to a long deal with lots of guaranteed money. Worth it? Perhaps... but I don't like that gamble.
Way too much speculation. how do we know that the niner really dont want him considering we dont know the D?
maybe because they just made Sopoaga the starter at NT
