The Saints gave Evans a boat load of money last offseason and they're looking to give Brees the bank pretty soon here too.

There's a reason Mankins is hitting the market. You only can pay so many guys.

I'm passing on the expensive guard. That's why we took 2 lineman in the 1st round last year. Right guard doesn't carry around an 8 million dollar price tag. At some point we have to develop lineman and find quality guys without wasting our top resources on it.

I guess that depends on the terms of the new CBA.

They just made Jahri Evans the highest paid Guard in the league last offseason. I don't think they'll want to spend that much money on their interior lineman (I'm assuming Nicks will want what Evans got, if not more).

While there is some truth there depending on the terms of the new CBA players with only three accrued seasons, like Nicks, will most likely be Restricted Free Agents. It's going to cost more than just money to sign them away from their current teams and their current teams are not going to have the break the bank to retain them.
Rather have Nnamdi. Our line is fine, Chilo's gonna look at this year as a learning process, hell get better.

You do realized he's already played three years in the NFL, right?

Yea but he's still wet behind the ears, IMO i dont think he's reach his full potential, is what Im trying to say.

He may not have reached his potential but he's showed no progress since being a rookie. And it's not like he hasn't been playing. He's started all but three games over the last two seasons and played in 8 games his rookie season.

why would we pay a dude about 8-10 mill per year to come here and switch positions when we just drafted a very talented player at g last year. we should try looking for the answer at guard either later in the draft or through a free agent who is a rg by nature.

Because the guy opposite Iupati is not very good and we have a chance to go get someone that would give us an elite offensive line. Seriously, people should forget about Nnamdi because he's probably only going to a winning team. IIRC Mankins grew up close to here or something like that and he's already been on a winning team so he might value money and location over proven success. Honestly, if we could get Mankins that would be really good. Imagine Gore/Dixon running behind a OL that has Iupati and Mankins? Not to mention Baas at C and AD at RT are both very good run blockers with some size already. He would be perfect for us an he should've been a 9er years ago.
the reason he is leaving new england is because he wants money. why would he leave new england if he wanted a successful team? He isnt going to go to a place with a left guard already. plus we just spent a 1st round pick on a guard last year. i am just being realistic.

You are being wise. The 9ers need the SKILL positions. CB, qb and pass rush. The aforementioned 3 will make a bigger impact than having two guards pulling in 5 million a year

Your right he has been playing alittle boo-boo in his career, but just 3 years and cast him off already, have alittle faith in the guy.

I'm one of those "have a little faith in the guy" kind of guys. And I did with Chilo until about half way through last season. I'm also one of the people that knows that NFL football in won on the offensive and defensive lines and I see a guard that has not progressed at all since his rookie season. And in his case it's not for a lack of practice/playing time/opportunities, he just doesn't have it.

We don't necessarily have to release him but we can't just go into 2011 thinking we're set at RG and everything will be OK. I'm fine with Staley/Bass (or Heitmann) being at least solid/serviceable and Davis/Iupati most likely taking the next step toward becoming legit NFL players, but I can't live with Rachal being the #1 option for the remaining spot on the line. We don't need to go after the top FA guards out there but we have to bring in someone...
