Yeah after all that scandal about overpaying Nate , I doubt the 9ers will overpay for a CB. I would rather use top money on DT and DE and have some "good" CB's like the other top tier Defenses.

There is a big difference between paying A - An elite CB elite money because he is one of the top 3 CB's in the league, and been to the Pro Bowl : and B - overpaying a good CB that just happens to be the best available at that time. And there is no "scandal" about overpaying Nate, just comments from a lot of people that apparently don't understand how Free Agency works.

I'd like to see the Niners go after the following:

1.) Logan Mankins - The Niners would be set at OG for the next 5 years at least with Mankins and Iupati. Would be a HUGE help to the running game that Harbaugh and Roman want to establish. Mankins would be coming home and I think he would like to play in SF. Would be expensive for an OG, but not ridiculous money in terms of overall dollars. Brings a nastiness that I LOVE!

2.) Nnamdi Asomugha - Niners got their pass rusher (they hope) with the #7 pick. Probably will go for at least 1 CB in the draft, but this guy would be the lockdown that could take this D to top 5. Would be VERY expensive, but I think he would also like to stay in the Bay area and with no salary cap, the Niners can afford both he and Mankins.

3.) Sydney Rice - Would be a very nice deep threat to compliment Crabtree. Has proven himself, and has the size to be a WCO type receiver.

4.) Marcus Spears - Have wanted him since he was coming out of LSU. Not a superstar, but definitely an upgrade that would look nice opposite Justin Smith.

5.) Matt Hasselback - Short money, short term bridge to whomever the Niners draft this year. But would be a great tutor as he is a smart QB who has a ton of experience in the WCO.

If they could pick up those 5 players, plus the folks that they draft, the Niners should be the odds on favorite to win the NFC West, at the very least.

Add Reggie Bush to the list, now that the Saints traded up to get Mark Ingram at #28.

So you didn't get the pic above I guess.
CB J. Joseph would look good in red & gold!
who do you see pursuing franklin in FA more than us?I don't see many 3/4 teams looking for a starting NT and ready to offer more than us to land him.
Same for Baas?
i really think we can't allow this two to walk...
also what are the odds of keeping our rfa(lawson goldson and Mc donald?
and finally i hope we restrucure clements and look for his successor next year.
I hope we could find a FB and 3/4DE (Mc Clain et Jenkins...)

#2 on my wish list
I really like Namdi, but I think a team should only pull the trigger if they feel they will be ready to compete for an SB in the next 2 to 3 years. If not, he could be a huge waist of money on a mediocare team. J.Joseph may be a better fit for us.

you and your logical thinking
I am surprised nobody else has said Mathias Kiwanuka. Dude's a OLB/DE that can rush the passer and he could break out for us IMO. Dude's role has kind of been lost in NYG's DL rotation and fought some injuries, but he still plays well. Him and Nnamdi or Joseph would be killer for us. I think if no CBA is reached though, and the injunction is granted, that a guy like Joseph wouldn't even be a FA because he has only played for 5 years. So I dont know what the FA market will look like.

Guys I would love to see us target though:
Cullen Jenkins DE
Antonio Cromartie CB
Josh Wilson CB

Those guys might be more realistic IMO.
yea i would feel better about the draft if we got some good free agents, at least a cornerback and a passrusher

Didn't Jenkins recently get busted with a car full of dope?

Cromartie is a headcase, but one of the better CBs in the league. He'll get paid.
