Do they just stay with us? Does this mean we'd keep them for free? Would Alex Smith return as QB? WTF would be going on?

I think, now dont quote me on this, but i think, they would stay and lapse to 2012, but Im very confident a new CBA will be reached by March 1st and a cap will be in place.

Friggin better happen dude, the last thing we need is for Goodell to screw up 2011 for us. It'll be the first time we've had a decent coach in 8 years!!!!!!!!!

Sadam Goodell wields too much power. The final word on issues in the biggest sport in the strongest nation in the world should not come down to one man.

Without knowing the terms of the new CBA there's no way to know but we can safely assume that free agency would not be like it usually is if this actually happens and a lot of guys will end up staying with their current team.

Maybe they impose a soft cap and have a "Larry Bird rule", allowing teams the opportunity to exceed the cap when signing certain players. I haven't heard anything like this discussed, but it is something I'd like to see with some limits, similar to how they used the franchise tag in the past.

no way when all is said and done that the players union would agree to the season beginning without players having the right to negotiate new contracts.
The FA period may be re-negotiated (length of service before a player is RFA/UFA etc) anything beyond that will not happen.
The shorter the negotiation window is though would work in our favor in terms of signing our own FAs and against us bringing in outside FAs. I expect the Nate Clements situation to be handled prior to this seasons year to officially end. March 3rd I think.

No player movement until a new CBA - trade or FA, all players are locked in to their existing teams.
Obviously, if the process is strung out into the mid-summer, teams with relatively settled situations will be much better off. In that case, the 49ers would be severely handicapped because Harbaugh cannot work with the players AND they will have an all new crop of QBs.

If there is no new CBA then there won't be any games. So free agents remaining with their teams won't mean much.

Yeah but I mean like if a CBA is reached before the season, but not till mid summer or so. Would there be a FA period mid summer or would they all just stick with their team?

mid summer more than likely. Players want to get paid. Otherwise, how would they determine their salary for the next year.
