Really Pitt isnt goin to resign him? that makes things alot more realistic on us snatching him up. however it would already be fairly expensive to get him and with the CBA the way it is i dont see the 9ers trying to hard for him. i see us building more so through the draft this first year then maybe hiiting free agency next offseason.

That guy is wrong, Pitt never said they werent going to resign him, just that they couldnt resign him THIS year because of the CBA and the 75% rule If the new CBA has a franchise tag, this guy is getting it.

The silly talk about 'Pitt can just replace him and thus wont pay him' is bull too. They had no problem handing James Harrison 48 million and he was 4 years older than Woodley is now. Woodley will get paid by Pitt either way. Him coming to SF is a pipe dream, Im sorry.

i thought it would be to good to be true for us to have a shot to sign him. but that does make sense that the only thing holding them back is the CBA issues it doesnt make sense for Pitt to 'replace' a guy like Woodley hes too good a player.

But there is NO WAY that Pitt would let him walk. They will retain him.

Dude Steelers always let LB's walk... Greg Lloyd, Kevin Greene, Levon Kirkland, James Farrior, and Joey Porter are some damn good LB's that they let go. They are so great at finding talent in the draft it does not matter to them. I love Woodley and I have always liked him even more than Harrison. Love to pick him up and draft a corner (Peterson or Amukamara).

When it comes to LB's Pitt knows exactly where to find them and what to do with them. If they see another LB in the mid rounds or later in the draft that they know can step in and make plays for Dick Labaeu, Woodley will be expendable because of what he may be seeking in a contract.

If he is, I wouldn't mind going after him. We need a pass rusher which is something we haven't had in years so instead of taking a chance on a 1st round guy and paying him similar money, might as well go after a guy who has been a PROVEN threat in the NFL

It's already been stated that the Steelers clearly want him back. The team wants/wanted to wait until the collective bargain agreement to see what happens before doinga deal. I believe both sides have agreed to it. He's not going anywhere.

He'd have to get severly overpaid to get him to leave there.
I would rather pay Woodley than some unproven rookie. Or else go after Wimbely 9.5 sacks 48 tackles for the Raiders 27 yrs old and maybe a lot cheaper

i am just saying it could happen. And they arent going to pay their linebackers that much. They gave harrison a massive contract. Also they complain about the fact that he doesnt do well in coverage and sometimes can be just a pass rusher which is fine with me. Pittsburgh lets there players go hit free agency often. If they sign woodley they have to much money on the books for just their OLB
If Pitt does not lock him up we need to swoop him up quick time.

I remember having a mock draft with us getting him in the 2nd and everyone
I would Love woodley. He is one guy i wanted when he came out. guess nolan didnt like him. He was a beast at Mich and has been a beast since.

Might have been because McNolan were idiots and thought you had to be taller than 6'2'' in order to play OLB in a 3-4. I hated them for that.

I wanted to draft him, too.... I just knew we wouldn't.

Both are good options. What I don't get is why have we never went after guys like this consistently if we wanted to build a 3-4? We drafted Manny Lawson who was DE and athletic enough to play LB, but has proven he isn't the guy to rush the passer consistently. Other than that, there is Jay Moore who may not have had the ability to make the transition. Nolan is a great defensive coordinator, but when it comes to putting the pieces together, the Nolan/McCloughan combo .
Pitt is back in the SB. So the Woodley price tag has defiantly gone up. I don't want to set my hopes too high but I'd love to get him.

This plus Prince @ #7!!!!
