He only threw 16 passes in 2010.

He is 6'3" 205 lbs. Not what you would call "sturdy."

That doesn't sound very interesting to me.

It was his first NFL action. He was better as the season went on. The Bucs had zero talent in 2009, so judging him by numbers is kinda dumb, isnt it? If you watch him play, he knows what he's doing, he doesnt look like an inexperienced guy at all. He stands tall in the pocket and has a very strong arm. He's worth a look for sure for a team desperate for a QB, which I believe this team would fall under that category.

Agreed, the Bucs' roster from '09 was horrible. Zero talent and clearly this year is a true showing of what the Bucs will do for next several years. Johnson is worth scoping out if we can get him, as I sad I would much rather pick up and give Harbaugh a final say on if he could stay a qb or switch to wr. I think he would kill it if he had good footwork and speed.

I have not seen him play, only judging on stats. I have heard some pretty knowledgeable folks say he has some good traits but needs maturity and development. Sounds like a reconnection with Harbaugh might be a good thing.
Get this kid..Get a FA vet ( trade for one), then draft a guy like Gabbert, Locker, or Devlin.. This fixes us at QB !!

Who do you want?

The level of available just went down with McNabb likely going to Tennessee and Palmer staying in Cincy.

Also, the NFL has announced no player trades can be made until AFTER a new CBA is signed. That could even be after the draft. If so, it almost mandates that Alex be offered a deal to stay. The available true FA QBs are abysmal...either young guys that will need a lot of tutoring or old guys that aren't worth salt.

he's like a poor mans vick on Madden... i signed him and do fake FG passes all the time. Sometimes I do it on 1st and 10 from the 50
Right now we have Carr and could resign N. Davis or Troy Smith. I could see Johnson taking the 3rd QB/developmental slot especially since Harbaugh is familiar with him and he is familiar with Harbaugh's system given a possible short training camp.

Technically we don't have Nate -- He wasn't offered a future contract. Sure we could invite him back to OTAs but right now the QB DC for the 9ers will look like this when Alex walks. #1(Empty: Presumably a rookie) #2(Empty: Troy was only signed to a 1 year deal) #3(David Carr.......lol)

Harbaugh clearly doesn't like Troy and would probably sign him to another 1 year deal and trade him straight out for Johnson, maybe throw in some cash or like 6th or 7th round pick from next year.

He looked pretty rough in that game in Philadelphia but it was the 2nd time he saw the field, on the road, with no talent around him and dropped back 50 times

He also had a poor game agains NE a couple weeks later.

This year, yes he has only taken 16 passes but has completed 14 of them and looks much more comfortable when he is on the field. His athleticism will be almost unmatched with any other player on the field with him at the same time, he just needs to be put in a situation to succeed. Unfortunately for HIM, Josh Freeman's potential is starting to be reached MUCH sooner than anyone expected.
I don't see how it would hurt to take a flyer on him. Just as long as we don't give up too much, but I would imagine we could get him on the cheap.

josh johnson is practically a project either...we have enough projects on the roster.

Tampa seems to disagree with that opinion. Having him as not just a wildcat qb but their definitive back up for Freeman. They got it right, drafting 2 physically identical players with similar skill sets.

Harbaugh would be the voice of reason on Johnson, judging if he could continue as QB or move him to WR were his size and athleticism would be put to great use.
i dont want a roster full of "rookies", particular not at QB...
Guess we don't want if Harbaugh and Luck are staying for another year?

Brilliant idea here, assuming we draft a first round qb capable of stepping in right away we go this way; if he is an FA sign him and have him and Nate Davis and a vet compete for the remaining depth chart, simultaneously cutting the cord with Nate if he doesn't cut it during OTAs and training camp. If we draft a project qb like Stanzi or Devlin we sign him and a vet and let them battle it out for the starting gig until the rook is ready to go.

People seem to keep forgetting Nate Davis is gone in the wind.

But besides that I think we stay with the same style of QB so only if we draft another running QB....
