Why is the Alex fanclub trying to put up a defense for Alex Smith in this thread ?
Some of you people need to get your head out of your asses. As bad a season McNabb has had, he still put up COMPARABLE numbers to Alex Smith.
In 13 games this year, McNabb threw for 3377 yards and 14 TDs.
In 11 games this year, Smith threw for 2370 yards and 14 TDs.
Smith had a QB rating of 82.1. McNabb had a rating of 77.1.
The difference is that McNabb had the WORST year of his entire year, whereas Alex played on par to how he usually plays. McNabb had less talent to work with, and was playing with a first year OC (sounds familiar, right.......Alexcuses). Whereas Alex had CONTINUITY with his coaches and all pro players (Gore/VD) to throw to.
The only defense the Alex fanboys have is that McNabb is washed up. Cause to them, one bad year is enough to conclude that a quarterback is on the way down........kind of like Warner was when he left the Giants (oops) and Rich Ganon when he left KC for Oakland (oops).

I just read a report on an NFL discussion board that the Redskins and the Titans are discussing a trade that would involve sending Albert Haynesworth back to the Titans, along with Donovan McNabb in exchange for Vince Young and other considerations.
Shanahan wants to be rid of both of them and he likes Vince Young. He feels he would be better off working on getting Young into the system than drafting Jake Locker, their reported main QB interest in the draft.
While there were no sources quoted, it fits into what is going on in Tennessee as the Titans owner has been counseled to get rid of Young and keep Jeff Fisher. Fisher has given Adams an ultimatum that either Young leaves or he leaves. Young has had a lot of problems in the last two years while a Titan.
Such a trade would make a lot of sense for both teams given the bad history of all three players with their current teams. If this goes down, it obviously takes McNabb out of consideration to come to SF.
Of course this trade could not be made until the new CBA is signed but agreement could be reached between the teams pending the new contract.

again, you're weighing one bad year for McNabb with an entire career's worth of failure for Alex Smith.
McNabb could be 54 at this point, and he'd still be better to have on this roster than Alex Smith, you has done nothing but bring this team down during his tenure.....

but ok, i'll give you something general:
1.mcnabb was also very decent in his last year with philly...that's why i didnt want to trade for him at all.
2.alex could still improve whereas mcnabb cant...if alex were interested in coming back (as a backup/one year starter), i wouldnt resist at all.
and like u saw, mcnabb wont be better on this roster than alex b/c mcnabb had failed on a similar roster DESPITE BETTER COACHING this season.

That's what I've been saying.
Also, look at the attempts. Alex played in 2 less games but he played less than 8 less quarters because of the way things worked out the the injury and the Troy Smith thing Donovan started 13, Alex only 10)...
Donovan has close to a full season's attempts at 472, more than Alex has ever thrown in a season, that's why he has 1,000 more yards. Alex has over 100 less attempts. With 100 more attempts Alex would have similar yardage and a ton more TD's (and probably a few more pics). I just don't see Donovan being a better option, or any sort of an option at all.

Fat Albert would have to take a major pay cut for this to go through.

I don't like McNabb, but even a non Mcnabb fan as myself could see that the Redskins and him suffered this year because they had zero running game in DC, therefore, whether he was comfortable with the WCO or not, that made the Skins a very pass dependant team. Torain had a decent year replacing Portis, but considering McNabb had options like D.Jackson, Macklin, Celek, and McCoy last year in Philly; Cooley, Moss and Torain don't quite equal the same. (No rhyme intended) Let's not try to inflate that talent in DC. They're terrible. Grossman looked like Johnny Unitas out there throwing for 300 yards because by the time he got the chance to get in, the season was already a wash. He played well in a similar way to how Alex looked great in a couple games after he took over for Hill last year and then reality set in.
If not for anything other than a bridge between now and the future QB, McNabb could be some good here for a year or 2 with this roster that has a good running game, a Pro Bowl level TE, as well as a good amount of other young options on offense and a whole new coaching staff with rebuilding and developing the core for the future as the main goal. Super Bowl contenders? No. But no matter who we get, that's still the case. But as a QB who has done it before, his experience alone can help win a few close games, like the 5 games lost by 8 pts. or less this season.
Anyone trying to compare a many times over Pro Bowl QB who has been to the Super Bowl and just a few years ago was considered one of the top 5-10 QB's in the game today, to Alex Smith, is grabbing at straws. One guy has numbers that reflect his very respectable career, almost HOF worthy, but is getting older, with a few good years possibly left before the end of his career, while the other one is Alex Smith. There is no comparison. Some may say they'd rather have Kitna, Palmer or Orton here next year, but anyone thinking realistically would take McNabb over all of them if he's available. The fact that he was not to long ago a top tier QB has to account for something against when compared to those guys.

Donovan has always been over-rated, is not a great/accurate passer (with any consistency anyways), and will be 35 this upcoming season. He's also coming off the worst year of his career.

I seriously doubt any truth to that story. I live in DC and there is 0 discussion of trading either player. and what team would trade for 2 guys you know are going to be cut? Especially with their inflated contracts. Not to mention that Shanahan and Jeff Fisher are super cool. and if Fisher doesn't think Young is a good enough for his system then i seriously doubt Shanahan does. Matter of fact the reason Shanahan drafted Cutler was based off what Jeff Fisher told him about Cutler. Broncos didn't even scout Cutler it was all based on Fisher's observations. I would be more than shocked if this trade took place, but you never know.
