I just read a report on an NFL discussion board that the Redskins and the Titans are discussing a trade that would involve sending Albert Haynesworth back to the Titans, along with Donovan McNabb in exchange for Vince Young and other considerations.
Shanahan wants to be rid of both of them and he likes Vince Young. He feels he would be better off working on getting Young into the system than drafting Jake Locker, their reported main QB interest in the draft.
While there were no sources quoted, it fits into what is going on in Tennessee as the Titans owner has been counseled to get rid of Young and keep Jeff Fisher. Fisher has given Adams an ultimatum that either Young leaves or he leaves. Young has had a lot of problems in the last two years while a Titan.
Such a trade would make a lot of sense for both teams given the bad history of all three players with their current teams. If this goes down, it obviously takes McNabb out of consideration to come to SF.
Of course this trade could not be made until the new CBA is signed but agreement could be reached between the teams pending the new contract.
I seriously doubt any truth to that story. I live in DC and there is 0 discussion of trading either player. and what team would trade for 2 guys you know are going to be cut? Especially with their inflated contracts. Not to mention that Shanahan and Jeff Fisher are super cool. and if Fisher doesn't think Young is a good enough for his system then i seriously doubt Shanahan does. Matter of fact the reason Shanahan drafted Cutler was based off what Jeff Fisher told him about Cutler. Broncos didn't even scout Cutler it was all based on Fisher's observations. I would be more than shocked if this trade took place, but you never know.
That is ridiculous. Do you have a link to prove that?
This is all i could really find.

Such liberties rarely are granted by the insecure. Fisher and Shanahan are so secure in position and skin, they're not afraid to help each other make competitive decisions. Before the 2005 draft, there were three premier quarterbacks available - Young, Matt Leinart and Jay Cutler. Fisher had the No. 3 overall pick and checked out all three quarterbacks carefully. After he took Young, Fisher wasn't afraid to share his impressions of Leinart and Cutler with Shanahan.
Denver's coach thought so much of his buddy's recommendation, Fisher will be facing Cutler tonight.
"Mike and I both understand how competitive the draft is," Fisher said. "We had already gone ahead and made our decision. With that being said, I think you can put the professional aspects aside and personally, I was glad to help."

That doesn't say anything about the Broncos not scouting him. I guarantee they scouted him very thoroughly. Fischer may have helped Shanahan's opinion but they didn't blindly draft someone because another coach said it would be a good idea.

I am pretty firmly in the pro McNabb camp, despite how bad he looked last year.
I think he'd be one of the better mentors of all the available vet QBs. And I think he's probably got a few more good years left in him. Older QBs in the wrong situation can look really terrible and like they're career is over. But in the right situation, they can suddenly remind everyone why they used to go to probowls. Remember how bad Warner looked on the Giants before he went to Arizona?
I'm not saying I want him starting on our team for the next 5 years. But a year or two of McNabb while a younger QB develops sounds great to me. I think he, more than almost anyone else we might be able to get, could make our team a playoff team right away.
Also, John Harbaugh coached in Philly for years. So I'm sure Jim has all the info he needs to determine whether or not McNabb can still play.

If you say so. To me, that's another low-standard, unintelligent choice. But you brought him up son.

After watching McNabb this past season, its clear father time has caught up to him. Andy Reid knew it, Shanahan now knows it, yet we continue to deny it.
Donovan and Mama McNabb can push Campbell's chunky soup in another NFL city, but not in Frisco.

binary, I think you're mistaking availability with admiration. It's not like smart people on this board are "in love" with guys like Johnson, Young, McNabb, etc., but that's who's possibly available. You may not have noticed, but the Patriots aren't going to release Tom Brady anytime soon, the Falcons are not going to trade Matt Ryan and the Colts are not parting ways with Manning in the near future.
Options are limited when it comes to quality veteran QBs, so "standards" become a relevant thing.

I think McNabb would be a good fit to replace David Carr as the teams "Seasoned Veteran". The prospect of reuniting McNabb and Westbrook seems pretty exciting.
