Merriman can be a steal

i've been noticing him a lot in chargers' games lately. i wouldn't mind signing him at a bargain price

At a minimum vet salary with incentives he might be worth it, but I doubt he will sign for that.

average is better than what we have here.

What do you mean by that? Both Lawson (5) and Haralson (4.5) have more sacks respectively than Merriman (4)...and in terms of team sacks, the Chargers are 9th in the league at 31, we're 11th at 30.

Not saying Manny or Parys are better than a healthy Merriman, or that we're a better pass rushing team than SD, but I think you're selling us a little short here.

I see some misinformed people on this board.

1: can't stay healthy. With the exception of the 2008 season he only missed 1game in each of 05,07 & 09 due to injury.

2: only good on the juice. He got popped in Oct of 06. served his suspension came back and gained 8 1/2 sacks the remaining 5 games. Then in 07 racked up another 12.5

As been stated numerous times in this thread. This is his 1st year back off of a knee injury.

lol merriman provides constant pressure on the qb, where as parys and manny get a sack here and there and disappear
He'd be a good pickup for the right price (incentive-driven but cautious contract)...I'll bet there are teams out there willing to overpay for him, though, and I'd hope San Francisco isn't going to do that.
I would sign him if we can. 2 years out after the surgery he will be better.
It seems that his knee is doing much better, but he's still dealing with that foot injury (not even going to attempt to spell it). He'll be hobbled by it for the rest of the season, which is good for anyone trying to sign him.

A healthy Merriman is still very capable of a 10+ sack season. Next year he'll quiet the critics. Hopefully he'll be play in a Niner uniform.

If we can get him for a steal then yes the 49ers should bring him in. I wouldn't pay to much for him though. Adding him to the LB rotation would give the 49ers the scariest LB corps in the league.

Lawson-Willis-Spikes-Merriman
Harolson-McKillop-?-Brooks
Ahmad Brooks IS a steal

You'd rather have a 30 something year old Thomas rather than a 26 year old Merrimen?
mankins and merriman are my dream fa acquisitions

Yeah, I hope we can bring Merriman in too. I also feel that he could come at a bargain price because of his injury. I give him credit for trying to tough it out to stay on the field, but his knee has been hindering him since the beginning of last season.

Honestly, I think even an injured Merriman is a better pass rusher than any of the OLBs currently on our roster; however, surely teams are going to be very cautious in signing him. Medical evaluations are going to be crucial in whether or not he gets the type of money/contract he'll be looking for. Don't forget that this was initially thought to be a possible career-ending injury. The Chargers seem ready to move on without him and I think there's a good chance that he looks to Manusky and Singletary to revive his career.

Would be great if we could get him cheap or else don't want him.
