Don't want him, he hasn't been the same player since they made him quit the steroids. On another note Adalius Thomas might want out of NE now...

He didn't play in 2008 because of a knee injury. Before his injury he had more than 10 sacks every year. knee injuries take time to get that explosion back which he was best known for. There is no doubt in my mind that he will return to form next season. He only came back early this season because it's a contract year.

Yeah, I hope we can bring Merriman in too. I also feel that he could come at a bargain price because of his injury. I give him credit for trying to tough it out to stay on the field, but his knee has been hindering him since the beginning of last season.
Honestly, I think even an injured Merriman is a better pass rusher than any of the OLBs currently on our roster; however, surely teams are going to be very cautious in signing him. Medical evaluations are going to be crucial in whether or not he gets the type of money/contract he'll be looking for. Don't forget that this was initially thought to be a possible career-ending injury. The Chargers seem ready to move on without him and I think there's a good chance that he looks to Manusky and Singletary to revive his career.

You actually would rather have a 32 year old sucky adalius thomas to a 25 year old shawn merriman? Even Merriman had more sacks after he came off steroids in 2007 than THomas at his peak.

I bet whoever signs him will look like geniuses. He was hurt for a long time, and maybe a change of scenery would do him good. If roids are an issue, the Bay runs supreme in that area.

I like Merriman, but not if its gonna cost 30M with say 15M Guaranteed, he shouldnt get that, he hasnt proven anything, only that he cant stay healthy.
Id take him only on a incentive laden deal, which i think is doubtful.

39.5 sacks in 3 seasons (prior to his injury) isn't enough proof? People bring up the steroids, but even after that, he came back with 12.5 sacks in 2007.
The only thing that should be a concern is his knee. The talent and ability is there.

If this three man rotation with Haralson, Lawson, and Brooks continues to produce, then we will draft another pass rusher for depth behind Brooks to develop and use in STs.
At first, I wanted Merriman to reunite with former Tarpin teammate V. Davis.
In this rich DE/OLB draft, the smart thing is to draft one.

If we can get him for a steal then yes the 49ers should bring him in. I wouldn't pay to much for him though. Adding him to the LB rotation would give the 49ers the scariest LB corps in the league.

Merriman was fantastic on juice. He has been very average without it.
At a minimum vet salary with incentives he might be worth it, but I doubt he will sign for that.
