McNeill would be great and would provide some leadership and grunt to the line. If he's not available/affordable then I'd be interested in a possible cheap option in Adam Terry, played very well at times and can really run block. Hasn't played this year and obviously Oher and Geathers means he on the outs...

My free agent pool:
Casey Hampton - number 1 priority.
Terrell Owens - we need to bring him home.
Deuce Lutui - good run blocker, should work well with Rachal.
Jeremy Trueblood - I love the meanstreak he has.

I bet McNeil will be franchised, I wouldn't get my hopes up for him.

You know there was talk earlier in the year that Hampton would be cut/traded by the Steelers. I think considering how they've started a trade would still be possible if Hampton would sign a contract with us without the opportunity of testing FA he could be picked up for very little.

Why would we want Casey Hampton when Aubrayo Franklin is doing fine at NT?

Franklin is doing fine, Hampton is much better, besides Franklin is in his contract year anyways.

Hence the improved play.

But, I wouldn't want to disrupt the chemistry Franklin has with our offense, it just would be nice to have a Pro Bowl NT at the position. Hampton is a big part of why their defense is successful. Besides, we could still keep Franklin, we just would have to bump Demetric Evans, after all Franklin has stated that he could play both NT and DE in a 3-4. Balmer, Franklin and McDonald would make a solid rotation and number two team.

I'll tell you something though - there is no way we will be in contention for Casey Hampton. Too much money, older than Franklin.
Instead, Ndamukong Suh would be a better option. Smith-Suh-Sopoaga with Franklin, Balmer, and McDonald as depth.
We can tackle that NT position for the next decade with Suh, and he has the ability to play DE. So we could also have Smith-Franklin-Suh with Sopoaga, Balmer, and McDonald on the bench.

More than likely. It all depends. Merriman, Sproles, Vincent Jackson and McNiel will be free agents. If he is then hopefully Evans will still be out there. I just know we need OL help fast.

Merriman is 100% going to be a free agent
No franchise tag even if he steps his game up for the rest of the season.
However, I'm still conflicted on whether to go after him. He doesnt look the same, but I think thats in large part due to missing a season due to his knee injury.

I believe we would have a good chance at Hampton, we have all the cap space in the world (OK a good amount) and we play a dominant 3-4. Sure Dallas could be another option, but I believe they're good with Ratliff. Besides, why waste a 1st round pick on a NT, when we could get one in the later rounds with:
Dan Williams, Boo Robinson, Trey Bryant or Al Woods
All who are much capable of plugging the run. But with Hampton, like I said, we have a real shot at adding a Pro Bowl NT at the position. We didn't hit free agency hard this year, and with free agency being stronger class next year, we could really take this team to the next level.

Gostowski would be a major upgrade over Nedney.
