Yeah... it is impossible to think that keeping Alex at this point would be better than riding with Jeff Garcia for the next 2-3 years (until Nate Davis or another QB is ready to play).
Sadly, this seems like a good idea.

Garcia sucked in a numbers offense (cleveland) and should play solely in a west coast passing offense which we don't run.

Jeff Garcia would definitely be an upgrade over Smith who should be cut now. At least with Garcia you actually have the possibility of winning some games.
