The 49ers went after Warner, why didn't they contact Favre?

The Niners weren't interested in Warner.

They were interested at driving up the price for him to screw over the cardinals.

The niners knew they had no shot at him.

I think they actually would have signed him, but knew they had no chance.

As for Favre, well there's some things you just do not do. It'd be like letting Darth Vader fly the millennium falcon... Or Letting Springsteen be the frontman for the News, you just don't do it.

Sure you didn't mean Hewey Lewis frontman for The News?
"why didn't they contact Favre?"

Because its Brett Farve. The only way I would ever envision Brett coming to SF would be if the organization had some bizarre trap waiting for him when he walked through the doors.

I would hope the trap would include some trap door triggered by cheese with a tank of water below infested with man eating sea bass with lasers strapped to their heads.

I like this answer.
Regardless of what anyone says, Farve has this burning desire to play against the Packers. He wants a shot at beating them so that he can prove to them that they made a serious mistake by not re-signing him.

He would not have signed with anyone else except for a team in their division and the Vikings IS his best chance of beating the Packers. Remember, he was even hesitant to sign with the Vikings!

Maybe if the Packers beat his pants off, he will finally stay retired. It would sure be embarrassing if the Vikings went on a losing streak while he's the QB and they pulled him and made him sit on the bench for the rest of the season.
