Philip Rivers??

I wouldnt say its probably that san diego lets him go but it is possible, with eli getting a huge extension and rivers in the last year of his contract he's gonna be asking for bank!
Now if he doesn't get a extenison this year then he'll definitly be franchised next year and with eli's huge payday its much more likely they san diego will not pay up if they dont make a major push to the superbowl...Would u be for san fran giving up our 2 draft picks for a Franchise Qb like Rivers?? or take the gamble with the draft? On one side rivers will be asking for a big payday on the other so will the roookie who hasnt played a down in the NFL

Rivers was their MVP last year. He singlehandedly kept them alive in many games. I would go with Rivers.

And this scenario has some validity. SD could easily consider this their final push and may want to start a rebuild which may not include Rivers contract demands in it.
HE'S THERE FRANCHISE! You DON'T trade your franchise!
damn an i thought l.t. was their franchise...but ether way i said it wasnt likely but it's definitly a posibility even more so with eli's contract...if u cant afford ur franchise qb well...then u take the two first roundpicks that the franchise tag gets you!

Bottom line if he doesnt get his extension this year (remember san diego gm is as penny pinching as the yorks! he'swaiting to see whre this season goes) then they franchise tag him next year and "IF" that happens we are in a position to aquire him
no way in hell rivers goes anywhere. they dont even got a backup who can actually start when they had to choose between rivers and brees. you dont let franchise qbs walk away with the exception of the broncos

Agree. If the Chargers have to eventually rebuild they will do it around their franchise quarterback.
yahoo sports just posted an article about this

null http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news;_ylt=AjXW.T.fdjwzoJ3LTRTO0L9DubYF?slug=ap-rivers-manningdeal&prov=ap&type=lgnsnull

once again i agree it an't likely but obviously chatters begun...what can u expect? him and eli are gonna be tied their whole career...all im saying is he worth paying the franchise tags price and only dan has answered that!

so do you think he's the caliber of player that you would drop your two first round picks on "IF" (and like i said big if) san diego cant come to terms on an extension (cuz their gm is very conservitive and probably wont be willing to make philip the highest paid qb in the nfl..which is what it would take to put philip on par with eli) and are forced to franchise tag him??

He's young and proven and no one is waiting in the wings. I doubt they would be dumb enough to let him go.

SD will never let their franchise QB go over money. They worked as hard as they could to keep LT in the fold and he IS on the downswing of his career with Sproles behind him. They have no other QB to start and Rivers has many years left. They will pay him but they will not pay him Eli money.

oze boyz eyeza spellz dat rong.
I said it during the Cutler drama. You do what you have to do to get your franchise QB! Behind every single Superbowl winning team is a franchise QB. Oh wait, that didn't matter with the Ravens.

Still, the 49ers do not have a defense like the Ravens did that year. If Rivers could be had for our two 1st rounders next year, I would give them up in a heartbeat; but only if Smith doesn't pan out to be our franchise QB.

Interesting spin. Do you think Scot thought about this when he was going for two 1st rounders next year? Or do you think he was just trying to focus on the stellar draft class coming up? Hmmm...

Interesting topic; thanks for starting it.
