Brink’s Best Bets: 49ers at Jets and All NFL Week 2 Predictions

Gilbert Brink
Sep 15, 2020 at 1:08 PM

Week 1 of the NFL season is generally a crap shoot. My picks for Week 1 were a good example of that, an even 8-8. Each week I will cover my best and worst picks from the prior week and pick the upcoming games. Let's get into it.

Season Record: 8-8
49ers Record: 0-1

Best & Worst Picks of Week 1

My Best Pick: Jaguars over Colts 34-30
Final Score: Jaguars over Colts 27-20

My Worst Pick: Cowboys 45 - Rams 20
Final Score: Rams 20- Cowboys 17

Week 2 Predictions

Bengals @ Browns (-6) - Burrow's better than Baker, but who isn't? Bengals 23 - Browns 21

Jaguars @ Titans (-10.5) - Titans defense, run game too much for Jags. Titans 26-16

Rams @ Eagles (-3.5) - Wentz can't stay upright, Donald devours a bad line. Rams 23 - 20

Giants @ Bears (-5.5) - Danny Dimes drops 4 touchdowns in a surprising win for NYG. Giants 34- Bears 16

Panthers @ Buccaneers (-8) - Brady gets his first win as a Buc. Buccaneers 27 - Panthers 24

Bills @ Dolphins (+3.5) - Bills defense is one of the best in the game, another easy win here. Bills 33 - Dolphins 7

Broncos @ Steelers (-6) - A dominant defense at home is always a recipe for success. Steelers 24 - Broncos 13

Falcons @ Cowboys (-6.5) - Atlanta's receivers set fire to the Dallas secondary. Falcons 27 - Cowboys 20

Lions @ Packers (-5.5) - Add another chapter to the book titled "Why the Lions fired Matt Patricia." Packers 26 - Lions 24

Vikings @ Colts (-2.5) - Colts inch closer and closer to the season debut of QB Jacoby Brissett. Vikings 23 - Colts 13

Washington Football Team @ Cardinals (-6.5) - Cards aren't actually good, WFT defense exposes that. WFT 21 - Cardinals 18

Ravens (-5) @ Texans - BOB lost this game in the offseason, Ravens feast. Ravens 45 - Texans 20

Chiefs (-6.5) @ Chargers - Chiefs offense may be the best in the league, it rolls here. Chiefs 34 - Chargers 10

Patriots @ Seahawks (-3.5) - Unlike the Dolphins, Seattle actually has a quarterback. Seahawks 21 - Patriots 20

Saints (-4.5) @ Raiders - Raiders shock the world, in a big way. Raiders 37 - Saints 17

49ers @ Jets (+6.5)

Why SF Wins: The 49ers cannot lose this game. The Jets looked downright laughable against the Buffalo Bills and the 49ers are coming off a devastating season opening loss at home. Jets QB Sam Darnold is the typical USC QB, overrated and over-hyped. Nothing about Darnold would lead anyone to believe that he could pull off any of the magic that Kyler Murray did against the 49ers in Week 1. The 49ers front 4 should apply pressure often to a weak Jets line and Darnold will hand the 49ers plenty of opportunities due to turnovers and short fields. The Jets do not have very good players on either side of the ball. The 49ers should dominate in all 3 phases of the game. The 49ers will win with a ton of rushing yards, a plethora of big plays on defense, and if they simply show up looking to compete.

Why SF Loses: They don't. I have four daughters, and I'd bet any of them on this one. That's how certain I am the 49ers win this game.

Prediction: 49ers in a landslide. Kyle Shanahan and Jimmy Garoppolo should be thanking the football gods this week as this cupcake Jets team is perfectly placed on the 49ers schedule. The 49ers will run the ball down the Jets' throats and may just make Jets fans abandon all hope for QB Sam Darnold. 49ers 38 - Jets 12

49ers rise to No. 3, fall to No. 14, and hold ground at No. 9 in wild Week 2 NFL power rankings

By Chris Wilson
Sep 15

The NFL power rankings for Week 2 illustrate the sports media's split over the 49ers after their blowout-turned-nail-biter victory over the Lions. If you're confused about the San Francisco 49ers after their 41-33 victory over the Detroit Lions in Week 1, you are not alone. In Week 2, NFL "Power Rankers" fell into one of two general camps as it relates to San Francisco: Those who think the 49ers took a clear step forward as they trounced the Lions over the first three quarters of Sunday's contest, and those who, after witnessing the Lions' improbable comeback attempt expectedly fall short, don't quite know what to think. It was a rough weekend for NFL analysts, as many in a long list of questionable media darlings tasted their first defeats of the

Josh Norman compares 49ers LB Fred Warner to Luke Kuechly; says 'You haven't seen the best' of Warner yet

By Kirk Larrabee
Sep 23

It's rare for the NFL to see linebackers as good as former Carolina Panthers star Luke Kuechly, but Kuechly's former teammate, cornerback Josh Norman, thinks the 49ers have one who compares very favorably to the retired All-Pro and likely future Hall of Famer. Norman, who played with Kuechly in Carolina from 2012 to 2015, spoke briefly about how Warner stacks up to his former teammate during his media session after 49ers practice on Thursday. Norman was asked if there were similarities between Warner and and his former teammate in terms of presence and command in the huddle and gave an emphatically positive answer. "Oh yeah, there are similarities," Norman said. "It's crazy because I'm kind of seeing it from two different lenses in a sense, just playing with

'I don't think he's at his best yet': Kyle Shanahan evaluates 49ers pass rusher Nick Bosa

By Rohan Chakravarthi
1 hr

Nick Bosa has had an electrifying start to the 2021 season, which is great news for the 49ers after the star pass rusher went down with an ACL tear early last year in Week 2. Bosa accumulated one sack, three tackles for loss, and two quarterback hits in Week 1, while only playing 55% of the defensive snaps. In Week 2, Bosa was even better, earning two sacks, forcing a fumble, and getting two quarterback hits, along with a tackle for loss, all while playing 76% of the defensive snaps. Looking back to his rookie year, Bosa had nine sacks, 45 pressures, an interception, a forced fumble, and 16 tackles for loss, warranting him for a Pro Bowl and defensive rookie of the year in 2019. That raises the question: is Nick Bosa even better than he

49ers' Trey Lance doesn't feel finger injury slowed him down, says 'it's all good now'

By David Bonilla
Sep 12

Trey Lance was 1-of-1 passing in his NFL debut on Sunday against the Detroit Lions. The San Francisco 49ers rookie's lone pass was a five-yard touchdown to wide receiver Trent Sherfield. The quarterback added three unremarkable carries for two total yards. Trey Lance's first career pass goes... FOR A @49ers [email protected] | @channel__10📺:
