Trent Williams missed the regular-season finale against the Los Angeles Rams because of an elbow injury. The San Francisco 49ers tackle intends to be back on the field with his teammates for Sunday's playoff game against the Dallas Cowboys. Williams spoke with reporters after Thursday's practice and provided some details on the injury that forced him to cheer from the sidelines this past weekend. The good news is that Williams is feeling better than he did last week, and that bodes well for his availability on Sunday. "The elbow is doing good," Williams said. "It's made a lot of improvement over the past week or so. Yeah, I practiced today. It felt pretty good. I chose to go with the tape (versus a brace). I'm not a huge fan of the brace. I went with the tape

Jimmy Garoppolo threw the football on Tuesday, trying to see where he is in his recovery from a torn ligament and chipped bone in his right thumb. The San Francisco 49ers quarterback spoke with reporters before Wednesday's practice and was asked how his hand feels after that throwing session. "It's sore," Garoppolo responded. "It was a pretty good throwing session yesterday, just trying to get the motion back and everything, get it feeling where I want it to feel." Garoppolo will participate in Wednesday's practice. Although, he will be limited. Rookie Trey Lance will get the majority of the reps, with Garoppolo receiving as many as he can endure. He'll also have an opportunity to evaluate the "tape job" the training staff has done around his injured

San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan addressed the media on Wednesday. He stated that quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo would practice during Wednesday's session. Although, he will be limited. "[Garoppolo] threw yesterday, and it's made him good enough to be limited today," Shanahan said. Garoppolo is still recovering from a torn ligament and chipped bone in his right thumb, an injury that some believe will require offseason surgery. He could not practice last week and wasn't available for Sunday's game against the Houston Texans. Rookie Trey Lance started in Garoppolo's place and could make his third career start this weekend, depending on Garoppolo's status. "We'll put Jimmy in on what he feels comfortable doing with where he's at today,"
