Later, tests revealed that the second-year player suffered his second MCL sprain of the season and would miss six to eight weeks. Then Christian McCaffrey exited late in the game, dealing with some knee irritation. He is expected to be suited up this weekend against the Miami Dolphins. However, the injury on Sunday left the 49ers to rely on rookie running back Jordan Mason—known to his coaches and teammates as "J.P."—to carry the load and secure the shutout victory. Mason

When Armstead was moved to a primarily interior defender, the 49ers allowed 100 yards rushing to an opponent just once, and that was only due to a 73-yard rushing touchdown from Travis Homer on a fake punt in Week 13. The two started working together with the Houston Texans in 2006 and were together for all but two years until the Dolphins hired the former 49ers offensive coordinator in February to be their head coach. Is Sunday's game more interesting for Shanahan, knowing that he is going against his former assistant? "Not really because I think we know their offense very well," Shanahan told NBC Sports Bay Area. "The defense knows their offense very well. It's very similar to ours. They know our defense very well. That's all Mike's gone against, so there's no secrets
