49ers release WR Jerome Simpson, eight others

The San Francisco 49ers announced today that they have released nine players, including WR Jerome Simpson. The complete list of cuts are listed below.

RB Kendall Gaskins
DT Darren Lake
K John Lunsford
LB Wynton McManis
OG Blake Muir
OG Ian Silberman
WR Jerome Simpson
CB Cleveland Wallace

The team also placed WR Eric Rogers (ACL) on the injured reserve list. The roster now has 79 players on it. The team has until 1 PM PT on Tuesday to get down to 75 players.

Earlier today, the 49ers traded CB Kenneth Acker to the Kansas City Chiefs for a seventh-round draft pick in 2018.

The NFL is still trying to figure everything out. The league is creating protocols to keep players and team staffs safe and prevent COVID-19 from impacting the 2020 season. Among those efforts is forbidding post-game player interactions within six feet of each other, according to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network. Also gone will be jersey exchanges between players.
