Saints making a strong push to sign Anquan Boldin

Jul 14, 2016 at 2:30 PM--

Ian Rapoport of NFL Network is reporting that the New Orleans Saints are making the strongest push to sign former San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Anquan Boldin.

Boldin reportedly loves former 49ers receivers coach John Morton, who is now in New Orleans. Morton was in San Francisco from 2011 through 2014. The 49ers acquired Boldin via a trade with the Baltimore Ravens in 2013.

Boldin, the reigning NFL Walter Payton Man of the Year award winner, has remained unsigned since becoming a free agent back in March. That month, he visited with the Washington Redskins, but remained unsigned. In June, Boldin visited with the Detroit Lions.

Boldin, who will be 36 years old in October, had 69 receptions for 789 yards and four touchdowns in 2015. That was the fewest receiving yards he has had since 2004 with the Arizona Cardinals, which was his second year in the league. Of course, those numbers were still enough to lead the 49ers in receiving. Boldin had surpassed 1,000 yards (1,062 in 2014 and 1,179 in 2013) in each of his previous two seasons with San Francisco and ranks 17th all-time in receiving yards with 13,195 and is 12th all-time in receptions with 1,009.

Today, San Francisco 49ers general manager John Lynch was asked about the contract situation with the team's No. 3 overall pick. Rookie quarterback Trey Lance remains the only unsigned player from the Niners' most recent draft class. "We're sure hopeful that he does (sign soon)," Lynch said. "Sometimes these things -- I just look at our history since we've been here. We've never had a holdout. It always seems to go down to the wire. It's important that he is here. "I think for any rookie, for every player, every rep counts, every meeting counts, but in particular at that position. So we're hopeful and expecting that Trey will be here and certainly know the importance of him being here." 49ers players reported to the team's facilities this morning for
