NFL Network is reporting that the New Orleans Saints are making the strongest push to sign former San Francisco 49ers wide receiver
Anquan Boldin.
Boldin reportedly loves former 49ers receivers coach John Morton, who is now in New Orleans. Morton was in San Francisco from 2011 through 2014. The 49ers acquired Boldin via a trade with the Baltimore Ravens in 2013.
Boldin, the reigning NFL Walter Payton Man of the Year award winner, has remained unsigned since becoming a free agent back in March. That month, he visited with the Washington Redskins, but remained unsigned. In June, Boldin visited with the Detroit Lions.
Boldin, who will be 36 years old in October, had 69 receptions for 789 yards and four touchdowns in 2015. That was the fewest receiving yards he has had since 2004 with the Arizona Cardinals, which was his second year in the league. Of course, those numbers were still enough to lead the 49ers in receiving. Boldin had surpassed 1,000 yards (1,062 in 2014 and 1,179 in 2013) in each of his previous two seasons with San Francisco and ranks 17th all-time in receiving yards with 13,195 and is 12th all-time in receptions with 1,009.

"Arizona was very interested in Knight after he was part of SF's cuts to get down to 53 players last month," Barrows noted in a tweet.

49ers Notebook: Deebo is no longer "awful"; Ronnie Bell makes a splash; J.J. Watt praises Niners; Captain Andrew Luck makes Levi's cameo
Thursday night was a fun one at Levi's Stadium, where the San Francisco 49ers cruised to a 30-12 victory over the visiting New York Giants. It was a night that saw wide receiver Deebo Samuel declare himself as officially out of "awful" mode, running back Christian McCaffrey reach milestones, wide receiver Ronnie Bell create some lasting memories, and -- of all things -- Andrew Luck making a return to an NFL field (in full Civil War costume) to take part in a game of trivia.
Let's recap all that and more in this version of 49ers Notebook.
Not awful anymore
