Saints making a strong push to sign Anquan Boldin

Jul 14, 2016 at 2:30 PM--

Ian Rapoport of NFL Network is reporting that the New Orleans Saints are making the strongest push to sign former San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Anquan Boldin.

Boldin reportedly loves former 49ers receivers coach John Morton, who is now in New Orleans. Morton was in San Francisco from 2011 through 2014. The 49ers acquired Boldin via a trade with the Baltimore Ravens in 2013.

Boldin, the reigning NFL Walter Payton Man of the Year award winner, has remained unsigned since becoming a free agent back in March. That month, he visited with the Washington Redskins, but remained unsigned. In June, Boldin visited with the Detroit Lions.

Boldin, who will be 36 years old in October, had 69 receptions for 789 yards and four touchdowns in 2015. That was the fewest receiving yards he has had since 2004 with the Arizona Cardinals, which was his second year in the league. Of course, those numbers were still enough to lead the 49ers in receiving. Boldin had surpassed 1,000 yards (1,062 in 2014 and 1,179 in 2013) in each of his previous two seasons with San Francisco and ranks 17th all-time in receiving yards with 13,195 and is 12th all-time in receptions with 1,009.

49ers DB Jimmie Ward not surprised Frank Gore still going strong at age 37

There's probably a number of people who never expected to see New York Jets running back Frank Gore still going strong in the NFL at age 37, but his former teammate Jimmie Ward isn't one of them. Ward is one of three current 49ers players who were on the roster when Gore was last with the team in 2014, with long snapper Kyle Nelson and cornerback Dontae Johnson being the others. Gore was a model of consistency back then, having rushed for over 1,000 yards in eight of nine seasons going back to 2006, and had just wrapped up a season of 1,106 yards and four touchdowns when he and the 49ers didn't come to terms on a new contract after the 2014 season. Gore will face off against his former team when the 49ers face the Jets on Sunday, the second time he's done so

Despite injuries, win over Giants came as no surprise to 49ers after strong week of preparation

From the outside looking in, it was hard to know exactly what to expect from the San Francisco 49ers this week given how many injuries they had coming into their Sunday afternoon game against the New York Giants. But, as it turns out, it seems like there wasn't much doubt on their end about what they would do to the Giants after how well their preparations went throughout the week. After posting a 31-13 win over the New York Jets at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey on September 20, the 49ers spent the following days at The Greenbrier -- a five-star luxury hotel located among the mountains in Sulpher Springs, West Virginia -- before returning to East Rutherford to play the Giants. That turned out to be a good decision, based on what they did to the

By Kirk Larrabee
Sep 18, 2020

The San Francisco 49ers officially announced the signing of wide receiver Mohamed Sanu Friday, while placing wide receiver Richie James on injured reserve due to a hamstring injury. Sanu, 31, is in his ninth NFL season after being selected by the Cincinnati Bengals in the third round of the 2012 NFL Draft out of Rutgers. Sanu spent four seasons with the Bengals before moving on to the Atlanta Falcons in 2016, where he remained until being traded to the New England Patriots in 2019. Sanu became a free agent after being released by the Patriots on September 3. The addition of Sanu (6-2, 215) boosts a depleted 49ers receiving corps that in
