San Francisco withdraws PI rule change proposal

According to the Associated Press, the San Francisco 49ers have withdrawn their proposal to make defensive pass interference either a 15-yard penalty or a spot foul, depending on the severity of the infraction.

There is no word on the reason behind the withdrawal.

Head coach Kyle Shanahan confirmed Sunday's report that the San Francisco 49ers plan to host veteran pass rusher Ezekiel "Ziggy" Ansah this week for a workout. "I've always been a fan of Ziggy," Shanahan told reporters via Zoom on Monday. "Playing against him and stuff, he's always been a real good player. 49ers rule out Dee Ford vs. Jets, promote Hroniss Grasu from practice squad

The San Francisco 49ers have updated pass rusher Dee Ford's status for Sunday's game against the New York Jets and ruled him "out" with a neck injury. The team had listed him on Friday as "questionable" before the downgrade. The 49ers also announced that offensive lineman Hroniss Grasu has been promoted from the practice squad. Ben Garland (ankle) is expected to return and start at center after missing Week 1 but Grasu can serve as his backup. Ford was a full participant during practice on Wednesday but later complained of some neck stiffness, general manager John Lynch said on KNBR Friday morning. San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan spoke with reporters on Monday afternoon, the day after the team's costly 31-13 victory over the New York Jets, and provided several injury updates. Defensive linemen Nick Bosa and Solomon Thomas were not among the updates. That's because the MRI truck the team had scheduled to arrive at The Greenbrier in West Virginia, where the team is staying and practicing this week, broke down on the way there. The 49ers had to send their injured players to a local hospital for MRIs. They are backed up on receiving some of the reports. Shanahan was able to provide the following injury updates.
