The San Francisco 49ers' rookie minicamp kicked off Friday afternoon, with the 49ers revealing the rookie jersey numbers prior to media availability. Sixth-round selection Nick Zakelj, who will wear No. 63, spoke with the media on Friday for the first time since draft night and shared a rather interesting fact about his football childhood. Zakelj is a Cleveland native, drawing a connection to Alex Mack, whom the rookie watched while growing up. Mack began his career as a member of the Cleveland Browns, playing from 2009-2015 before stints with the Falcons and the 49ers. "I think definitely watching guys like Alex, especially growing up in Cleveland, being drafted, I

Drake Jackson knows he's going into a great situation. Two weeks ago, the 21-year-old rookie defensive end was the first selection by the San Francisco 49ers, added during the second round. Eventually, the 49ers expect him to fill the role once envisioned for Dee Ford—a strong pass rusher opposite phenom Nick Bosa. Jackson could develop into that complementary piece for the 49ers defense. Luckily, he has a great role model in Bosa. "Watching him, the whole D-line, watching them hunt, I cannot wait to go get out there with those guys and just turn up with them," Jackson told reporters on Friday. After Jackson was drafted, Bosa was among several

Pro Football Focus (PFF) did their annual ranking of the top 25 players under 25 entering the season, compiling a list of the many young stars that have taken over football in the past few years. With the criteria being "under 25," several players graduated from PFF's rankings last year, including 49ers' star linebacker Fred Warner, who came in as the best player under 25 on PFF's list in 2021, which was ahead of Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson, then-Tennessee Titans receiver A.J. Brown, and San Francisco's own Nick Bosa, who slotted in at two, three, and four, respectively on the list. In their 2022 version, PFF ranked Bosa as their best player under 25 in 2022, ahead of quarterback Justin Herbert, running back Jonathan Taylor, and most notably,

Albert Breer weighs in on when the 49ers might trade Jimmy Garoppolo

By David Bonilla

When will the San Francisco 49ers finally trade quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo, officially ushering in the Trey Lance era without the distraction of the veteran still being on the roster? The team has tried, but Garoppolo opting to undergo shoulder surgery on March 8 halted all trade talks. "I felt like we were close in some [trade] discussions, and then the decision was made to have surgery," general manager John Lynch said earlier this month. "That just brought things to a screeching halt." Now, everyone is waiting for Garoppolo to be healthy again. The problem is that many quarterback-needy teams have already made offseason moves to improve the position. A couple
