Trey Lance received four snaps against the Detroit Lions on Sunday. It wasn't a whole lot of experience for the San Francisco 49ers' developing rookie quarterback, but it was better than nothing—a point that head coach Kyle Shanahan made yesterday. "I think getting a guy any playing time when he's the number two quarterback helps his development more than getting no playing time," Shanahan responded when questioned about whether or not the limited opportunities hurt Lance's development. Despite the limited in-game snaps, All-Pro tight end George Kittle likes what he's seen from his rookie quarterback. He joined ESPN's Keyshawn, JWill &

The NFC West is on a roll, which isn't necessarily great news for the San Francisco 49ers when it comes to the success of their division rivals. Through two weeks of NFL play this season, the NFC West is 7-1 as a whole. That, of course, includes the 49ers' Week 2 17-11 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles. The Seattle Seahawks became the first NFC West to lose a game, falling to the Tennessee Titans 33-30 in Week 2. The Los Angeles Rams beat the Indianapolis Colts 27-24 and the Arizona Cardinals edged the Minnesota Vikings 34-33. There is a three-way tie for the division lead, proving what many believed—that the NFC West would likely be the most competitive division this season. "NFC West,

49ers-Eagles: Goal line stand turns the tide after shaky 49ers start

By Kirk Larrabee

If there was one significant turning point in the San Francisco 49ers' 17-11 win over the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday, it was most likely the unexpected goal line stand members of the defense produced after a 91-yard pass put their backs against the wall in the second quarter. Down 3-0 to the Eagles with just over seven minutes remaining in the half, the 49ers had a long field behind them after a punt from Mitch Wishnowsky pinned the Eagles at their own three-yard line. But on the first play after the punt, Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts went deep for wide receiver Quez Watkins, who went for 91 yards before being brought down by safety Jaquiski Tartt and cornerback Deommodore Lenoir at the 49ers' six-yard line.
