John Clayton, of ESPN.com, reports there has been progress in contract negotiations between the San Francisco 49ers and rookie TE Vernon Davis.

Davis was chosen with the 6th overall pick in this year's NFL Draft.

49ers alter Trent Williams' contract to create $4.36 million in salary cap space

According to ESPN's Field Yates, the San Francisco 49ers have converted $5.45 million of tackle Trent Williams' base contract into a signing bonus, which the team will pay immediately. The move creates $4.36 million in salary cap space. The 49ers had an estimated $3.7 million in salary cap space before the move, per OverTheCap.com. 49ers injury updates: RB Ty Davis-Price, TE Tyler Kroft will miss 'a few weeks,' says Shanahan

Quarterback Trey Lance wasn't the only San Francisco 49ers player who suffered an injury during the team's 27-7 victory over the Seattle Seahawks. Head coach Kyle Shanahan jumped on a conference call with reporters this afternoon and provided injury updates, as he typically does on the day after a game. "[Tight end] Tyler Kroft had an MCL sprain," Shanahan said. "He'll be out a few weeks. [Rookie running back] Ty Davis-Price had a high-ankle sprain. He'll miss a few weeks also." Shanahan added that they just learned about the injury to Davis-Price. The team will expect their other rookie running back, Jordan Mason, to step up in Davis-Price's absence.
