Why Leonard Floyd signed with the 49ers: 'They play grown-man football'

By David Bonilla
May 22

Leonard Floyd had multiple options as he entered free agency but chose the San Francisco 49ers as his next NFL home. It wasn't just the beautiful California weather and scenery that attracted him. Although, during a Wednesday morning conversation on Bay Area radio station KNBR, the defensive end admitted those are among the first things he praises when talking to his friends back on the East Coast. Floyd signed a two-year, $20 million deal with the 49ers, hoping to return to the Super Bowl with a talented roster fresh off an appearance in the NFL title game. While the money is significant, the defender wasn't entirely financially motivated. Floyd has always admired the 49ers from afar, appreciating the physicality the defense consistently displays on the football

49ers Football is a Game of Inches and What-ifs

By Jon Opelt
May 23

Football is a game of inches and what-ifs. The 49ers Faithful know that all too well. First downs are sometimes made or missed by the nose of a football or a few links in the yard marker chain. Likewise, games are often decided by a tipped pass, the bounce of a ball, or a missed blocking assignment. This truth was on full display in the most recent NFC Championship and the Super Bowl. In the NFC title game, good fortune favored the 49ers, but in the Super Bowl, the breaks went the Chiefs' way, leading to Kansas City's victory. The Lions ran away with a 17-point halftime lead in the NFC Championship. But then, in the most improbable fashion, momentum swung. An overthrown ball ricocheted off the facemask of Lions defender Kindle Vildor and into the

Brandon Staley has transitioned from working with one Bosa to another. As the head coach of the Los Angeles Chargers, he worked with four-time Pro Bowl pass rusher Joey Bosa. Now, he gets to work with Joey's younger brother, Nick Bosa, who also boasts four Pro Bowl selections and a first-team All-Pro nod in 2022. Staley joined head coach Kyle Shanahan's staff and will serve as the assistant head coach of the San Francisco 49ers. Speaking to reporters last week, he expressed his admiration for the Bosa brothers and considers himself fortunate to work with both. "I think having to face Nick, you know what a challenge he is," Staley said. "And I've coached Khalil Mack, Von Miller, Bradley Chubb, Leonard Floyd, and Nick's always a guy that we would watch. And I

49ers DB coach praises Deommodore Lenoir's big mental leap

By David Bonilla
21 hrs

The San Francisco 49ers hold defensive back Deommodore Lenoir in high regard. The team values versatility, and Lenoir has demonstrated to his coaches that he can be relied upon in various roles throughout the secondary. Whether lining up inside or outside, Lenoir's adaptability and consistent performance have made him an invaluable asset to the defense. 49ers defensive backs coach Daniel Bullocks believes Lenoir made a significant mental jump as a player last season, and the analytics back that up. Lenoir's 75.8 overall grade and 74.3 coverage grade from Pro Football Focus were career highs. Opposing quarterbacks had an 86.9 passer rating when throwing his way. "I say, mentally, he made his biggest jump [last year]," Bullocks told reporters last week. "I think
