Jay Glazer is reporting that free-agent quarterback David Garrard is now a Miami Dolphin. Glazer says that he received a text from Garrard.

Why is this relevant 49ers news? The Miami Dolphins were the only team, other than the San Francisco 49ers, that showed interest in free-agent quarterback Alex Smith.

San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan said he expects Deebo Samuel to return to practice this week but wouldn't commit to the receiver playing next weekend against the Philadelphia Eagles.
