San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk continues to draw criticism from both fans and media members over his offseason social media activity. The veteran receiver appears intent on forcing his way out of San Francisco, repeatedly signaling a desire to join the Washington Commanders.
On Wednesday, Aiyuk stated that if the 49ers released him, he would sign with the Commanders immediately.

During a recent episode of his Speakeasy podcast, analyst Emmanuel Acho expressed concern about Aiyuk's behavior, comparing his current path to the early stages of former NFL receiver Antonio Brown's well-documented public unraveling.
"Brandon Aiyuk is on an early Antonio Brown trajectory without the Antonio Brown talent ... I remind you all, it wasn't all of a sudden. It was subtle," Acho said. "What ended up as a flood started as a puddle. Antonio Brown did not start on Instagram, crashing out, no. Antonio Brown just started running around saying, 'Free me,' calling his grandma, if I'm not mistaken, on Instagram Live, cussing out general managers."
Acho was careful to note that Aiyuk still has an opportunity to change course.
"Brandon Aiyuk is on an Antonio Brown trajectory without the Antonio Brown numbers to back it up, and that is my fear," Acho continued. "Now, just because he's on that trajectory does not mean he will land there. It just means that's currently the destination that his airplane is on. Hopefully, we can reroute it and bring it back to normalcy."

This week, ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter warned that Aiyuk's actions are likely raising red flags across the league.
"I think every time he opens his mouth, he damages his standing with other teams, and he scares other teams from bringing him into their organization," Schefter said. "And I just think he doesn't realize that. He thinks he's helping the situation. I don't believe that to be the case."
Schefter added that concerns about Aiyuk existed within the Commanders organization leading up to the 2026 NFL Draft.
"I would imagine they still exist," Schefter said.
