Bob Condotta of the Seattle Times reports that the Seattle Seahawks remain interested in reuniting with free agent safety Jamal Adams. He adds another name to the list of teams considering Adams for the upcoming season—the San Francisco 49ers.
"Sources said the San Francisco 49ers are among other teams who have kept in touch with Adams, so the Seahawks could have some competition for the former All-Pro safety, who is still just 28 years old," wrote Condotta.
The New York Jets drafted Adams (6-1, 213) out of LSU with the No. 6 overall pick in 2017. He registered 48 tackles, including seven for a loss, two quarterback hits, and two passes defensed in nine starts with the Seahawks last season while playing 84 percent of the defensive snaps, per Pro Football Reference.
San Francisco added a safety in the 2024 NFL Draft, selecting Malik Mustapha of Wake Forest in the fourth round.
"I'm a downhill, speed, tenacity, ballplayer that plays with a lot of fire," Mustapha told reporters after being drafted. "I'm able to line up pretty much everywhere. Just watching the film, I'm able to impact the game on all levels of the football. I'm pretty sure the 49ers have a plan for me. I really feel comfortable in a lot of spots, being able to show that versatility during my time at Wake Forest."
As for Adams, he has recorded 494 tackles, including 50 for a loss, 42 quarterback hits, 21.5 sacks, 36 passes defensed, four interceptions, a touchdown, and seven forced fumbles in 80 starts throughout his seven NFL seasons.
Adams has earned one first-team All-Pro selection, two second-team All-Pro honors, and three Pro Bowl selections.
