NFL scout: 49ers’ Brock Purdy has the potential to become a Hall of Fame QB

Iowa State quarterback Brock Purdy didn't capture the spotlight entering the 2022 NFL Draft, with most scouts overlooking the prospect. That paved the way for the San Francisco 49ers to select him with the draft's final pick.

Since then, Purdy has proven his worth by leading the Niners to two NFC Championship Games and a Super Bowl appearance. In February, he nearly emerged as a Super Bowl champion. However, some late-game heroics from Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs thwarted the 49ers' championship hopes.

Purdy's journey from "Mr. Irrelevant" to NFL standout hasn't gone unnoticed. One NFL scout recently told NFL Analysis Network that Purdy has yet to reach his ceiling, hinting at a bright future for the young quarterback.

"I can't say enough that Brock Purdy has so much more potential left to unlock," the analyst stated. "He's already a superstar, but he's nowhere close to his ceiling. If he ends up reaching his ceiling, Hall of Fame is the least of the accolades that he has the talent and ability to achieve."

Purdy has become a household name in his two NFL seasons. Last season, the 24-year-old quarterback set a new single-season franchise record with 4,280 passing yards and was a finalist for the coveted MVP award.

Add Kyle Shanahan to the list of those who believe Purdy has yet to reach his potential. The head coach recently acknowledged that this offseason is pivotal for his starting quarterback, who lacked practice reps in his rookie year due to his place on the depth chart and spent last offseason recovering from offseason surgery.

"Everything's about repetition," Shanahan emphasized last month. "You can learn it right away. It's about going through it. And Brock's gone through a lot in two years in these games, so that's been great for him. But the way you get better is doing it over and over in practice and just drilling it. It's all about getting those 10,000 reps."

Purdy and the 49ers will reconvene on April 15 to kick off their offseason program, followed by organized team activities in May and a mandatory minicamp in June. Training camp will commence in late July.

The goal for 2024 is clear: win the Super Bowl. To achieve that, the 49ers will need another stellar year from Purdy. One NFL scout believes San Francisco will get just that, making a bold prediction for the upcoming season. "I think Brock Purdy will turn in his best season yet. He's going to win the MVP award this season," the scout recently

49ers' Brock Purdy, Nick Bosa weigh in on potential 18-game season

The NFL increased each team's regular-season schedule from 16 games to 17 games in 2020. The league is always looking to maximize revenue. An 18th game is expected in the near future, and there's no indication the NFL will halt expansion at that point. However, there are complications with lengthening the season by another week. The NFL prefers to conclude its season before Presidents Day. Adding a week to the beginning of the season could encroach on Labor Day Weekend, something the commissioner, Roger Goodell, likely wants to avoid. The NFL, a Goliath in sports, can likely do whatever it wants. This is evident in its decision to schedule games on Christmas Day—a Wednesday this year. It's a move that has rightfully

49ers' Brock Purdy has realization while reflecting on rookie season

By David Bonilla
May 20

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy now has a full NFL season under his belt. He entered the league as the last overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft and spent much of the offseason working to make the roster, knowing he had to maximize his limited practice reps. The 49ers saw potential in Purdy, enough to keep him on the 53-man roster—a decision that would eventually prove to be franchise-changing. After the two quarterbacks above him on the depth chart suffered injuries, Purdy was thrust into the starting lineup, leading the offense at the end of his rookie season and into the playoffs. Speaking at the Dwight Clark Legacy Series event last week, Purdy reflected on that first NFL season, coming to an interesting realization regarding his unique
