NFL scout: 49ers’ Brock Purdy has the potential to become a Hall of Fame QB

Iowa State quarterback Brock Purdy didn't capture the spotlight entering the 2022 NFL Draft, with most scouts overlooking the prospect. That paved the way for the San Francisco 49ers to select him with the draft's final pick.

Since then, Purdy has proven his worth by leading the Niners to two NFC Championship Games and a Super Bowl appearance. In February, he nearly emerged as a Super Bowl champion. However, some late-game heroics from Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs thwarted the 49ers' championship hopes.

Purdy's journey from "Mr. Irrelevant" to NFL standout hasn't gone unnoticed. One NFL scout recently told NFL Analysis Network that Purdy has yet to reach his ceiling, hinting at a bright future for the young quarterback.

"I can't say enough that Brock Purdy has so much more potential left to unlock," the analyst stated. "He's already a superstar, but he's nowhere close to his ceiling. If he ends up reaching his ceiling, Hall of Fame is the least of the accolades that he has the talent and ability to achieve."

Purdy has become a household name in his two NFL seasons. Last season, the 24-year-old quarterback set a new single-season franchise record with 4,280 passing yards and was a finalist for the coveted MVP award.

Add Kyle Shanahan to the list of those who believe Purdy has yet to reach his potential. The head coach recently acknowledged that this offseason is pivotal for his starting quarterback, who lacked practice reps in his rookie year due to his place on the depth chart and spent last offseason recovering from offseason surgery.

"Everything's about repetition," Shanahan emphasized last month. "You can learn it right away. It's about going through it. And Brock's gone through a lot in two years in these games, so that's been great for him. But the way you get better is doing it over and over in practice and just drilling it. It's all about getting those 10,000 reps."

Purdy and the 49ers will reconvene on April 15 to kick off their offseason program, followed by organized team activities in May and a mandatory minicamp in June. Training camp will commence in late July.
