On Monday morning, former Seattle Seahawks linebacker K.J. Wright took to YouTube to announce he's been hired as the 49ers' assistant linebackers coach/defensive quality control coach.
The news comes just days after news broke that the 49ers would be promoting Nick Sorensen to defensive coordinator. Sorensen spent several years as a coach on the Seahawks staff from 2013 to 2020, which includes the infamous "Legion of Boom" era, during which Wright served as a starting linebacker.
The 34-year-old Wright played for the Seahawks from 2011 to 2020 and won a Super Bowl XLVIII with Seattle. He concluded his NFL career with the Las Vegas Raiders in 2021 and signed a one-day contract to retire with the Seahawks in 2022.
Wright finished his career with 992 total tackles, 13.5 sacks, six interceptions, and 11 forced fumbles. This new role with the 49ers marks the beginning of Wright's coaching career.
