The San Francisco 49ers are getting more help for their matchup with the Green Bay Packers. Veteran safety, and special teams star, George Odum has been activated off of Injured Reserve (IR). Odum tore his bicep in late November and missed the rest of the regular season.
Odum, who is in his second season with the 49ers, should give the special teams unit a boost, as he is a standout special teamer. In 2022, Odum was named second-team All-Pro for his work on special teams. In 2020, while with the Indianapolis Colts, Odum was named first-team All-Pro. He is still considered one of the top special teams players in the league, so getting him back for the postseason is good news for the 49ers.
To make room for Odum, the 49ers placed starting defensive lineman Clelin Ferrell on IR, ending his season. Ferrell finished the 2023 season with 3.5 sacks, 15 solo tackles, and one forced fumble, and helped lead the 49ers' run defense.
The 49ers also activated defensive linemen Alex Barrett and T.Y. McGill from the team's practice squad. This will be McGill's third game to be active this season. Last month, McGill forced a fumble against the Arizona Cardinals. This will be Barrett's first time being active since 2020.
