The Atlanta Falcons signed Watson as an undrafted free agent out of Texas-San Antonio in 2022 before the offensive lineman spent his rookie season on the 49ers' practice squad.
49ers offensive line coach Chris Foerster admitted that practice squad players like Watson can have a harder time developing because of their minimal practice reps and the lack of in-game experience.
"They have to make the most of it," Foerster said in September when asked of Watson's progress. "It's just, in a practice setting, it's hard to get huge jumps. They're little, tiny steps."
