The San Francisco 49ers are keeping a watchful eye on several injured players this week. Running back Christian McCaffrey (oblique), wide receiver Deebo Samuel (shoulder), and tackle Trent Williams (ankle) all sustained injuries during Sunday's loss to the Cleveland Browns. The three did not practice on Thursday, the team's first practice of the week, as it readies for Monday night's showdown with the Minnesota Vikings.
On Thursday, head coach Kyle Shanahan confirmed that all three players are considered day-to-day. The extra day of rest will aid in their recovery, potentially boosting their chances of taking the field for the Week 7 matchup.
Are the 49ers optimistic that players like McCaffrey will be in uniform on Monday night?
"I don't know what to be as of yet," general manager John Lynch said Friday Morning on KNBR's "Murph and Mac" show. "I think Kyle characterized all those guys, Christian, Deebo, and Trent, as day-to-day, and I think that's truly where they are.
"It's a good thing that we have the extra day of preparation. And, to me, as a player, that was always a day-and-a-half because you don't play until Monday night. And that sounds like a little bit, but it's a lot. It really is when you're talking about the ability to heal and come back from a game like that.
"So I think all those guys are working really hard and doing their best to try to be available for us, and we're just going to let it play out and see if they can get out there on the practice field."
Lynch also added that the 49ers are considering the bigger picture, understanding that they'll require each of these players for the rest of the season.
"We always have to have their health and safety as our primary concern, always will, and make sure that they're safe being out there," Lynch continued. "So a lot to factor in, and we'll just kind of let that continue to play out. But I know they're all doing their best to get back out there for their team."
San Francisco is scheduled to conduct two additional practices this week, with sessions on Friday and Saturday, before traveling to Minneapolis for the Monday night game.
