San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan revealed on Thursday that two of his receivers, Deebo Samuel and Jauan Jennings, will likely be listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Arizona Cardinals. Neither has practiced this week, and the team has just one more practice before this weekend's matchup at Levi's Stadium.
Samuel is dealing with rib and knee injuries sustained against the New York Giants last week. Jennings is working through a shin injury.
Missing both receivers would be a significant loss for the 49ers offense, a unit that has helped the team score 30 points in each of their three games this season. San Francisco's second-year quarterback is just as calm and collected about potentially being without Samuel and Aiyuk as he was about facing the Giants' blitz in Week 3.
"Obviously, those guys bring so much juice and fire to our team," Brock Purdy told reporters on Thursday. "We've got guys behind them that are ready to stand up and ready for their opportunity. So for me, obviously, those are great ball players, and I love them, but I also trust in the guys that are next up."
The good news is that Purdy may have wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk back in the lineup. Aiyuk was inactive against the Giants due to a shoulder injury and has been limited this week in practices but is trending upward regarding his health. The receiver practiced without his blue no-contact jersey on Thursday.
"And so we've got a great scheme, everyone does their job," Purdy continued. "And if we got a couple of guys down, the next guys that come up fill the void and do a great job as well. So, for me, it's not anything to panic about or whatnot.
"Obviously, I want my guys to be healthy and out there. I love playing with them, but we'll be ready to go with whoever's out there."
