Should he suit up and play, Swilling, who went undrafted last season, will be making his professional debut on Sunday against the Rams.
After announcing the Womack injury earlier this week, Shanahan indicated that the team had a good idea for his replacement, but would wait to make the announcement, and that appears to be Swilling, who signed with the team's practice squad after spending a majority of the offseason with the 49ers.
"I've got a good idea (about Womack's replacement) but we haven't made it official yet, so I can't say," Shanahan said earlier this week.
Last week, the 49ers elevated two players from their practice squad in defensive end Austin Bryant and linebacker Curtis Robinson, but neither earned the call-up this week, as the team elected to go with just one elevation ahead of Week 2.
Week 2 will be Swilling's first call-up of a potential three opportunities this season, and a cool moment for the young cornerback, who is poised to make his debut on Sunday.
