49ers’ Brandon Aiyuk declares he’s ready to Rock with Brock when asked about Baker Mayfield

Dec 6, 2022 at 9:52 AM--

San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk joined Airing It Out With Housh & Scandrick, hosted by T.J. Houshmandzadeh and Orlando Scandrick, this week. The receiver made his opinion evident when asked about the 49ers potentially adding quarterback Baker Mayfield off the waiver wire.

"Give me, give me Brock Purdy," Aiyuk declared at the start of the interview, making it clear which of the two quarterbacks he prefers.

"It's beyond how he played," Aiyuk explained. "It's the preparation throughout the week when you don't even think you have a chance to touch the field. You are still prepared to go out there and give yourself a chance to perform. That's why I could respect it."

Aiyuk went on to speak about Purdy apologizing for missing him on a play, which surprised the receiver because he didn't expect an apology from his quarterback. It sounds like Aiyuk is all in on Purdy, a.k.a. Mr. Irrelevant, completing the season and taking this team to the promised land.

Purdy, the last overall pick in this year's draft, will be the 49ers' starting quarterback moving forward after Jimmy Garoppolo suffered a season-ending foot injury early in Sunday's 33-17 win over the Miami Dolphins.

By David Bonilla

San Francisco 49ers rookie quarterback Brock Purdy is now 7-0 as a starter, not including his Week 13 efforts after replacing Jimmy Garoppolo and leading the team to a win over the Miami Dolphins. The 49ers have faced two playoff opponents, and Purdy has done everything necessary to secure his team a contest against the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC Championship Game this weekend. Aside from the poise and leadership Purdy has shown over the last eight games, the rookie quarterback hasn't thrown an interception since January 1. Not only has he played well, but he has also done what he can to protect the football. One Hall of Fame quarterback has been very impressed with the 23-year-old rookie. "It was a veteran game," Steve Young said on
