49ers work out S Tashaun Gipson

On Thursday, due to recent injuries in the secondary, the San Francisco 49ers worked out free agent safety Tashaun Gipson, per NFL Communications.

Gipson, 32, has spent 10 years in the NFL. He spent the 2021 season with the Chicago Bears, recording 47 tackles, two interceptions, and three passes defended.

Gipson's workout comes after head coach Kyle Shanahan indicated the team would add a player in the secondary following the injuries to Jimmie Ward (hamstring) and Dontae Johnson (rib cartilage fracture).

"We have [S] George [Odum], who's done a good job. We probably will have to add some more people there, especially with [CB] Dontae [Johnson], because Dontae has done a real good job also. But he might be out this week too with his rib cartilage, so we'll see how it goes with the roster. We might move our nickels around a little bit just for some guys, but hopefully we'll get some more guys in here soon."

Gipson could be a quick addition to the rotation, similar to newly-signed corner Ken Crawley, as the 10-year veteran has been a full-time starter for the past nine seasons, and has even recorded an interception in every season.

The 49ers face off against the Minnesota Vikings on Saturday and could need the extra depth at safety for their final preseason game against the Texans on August 25th, which will be their third game in just 12 days.

49ers work out several quarterbacks, receivers, and tight ends ahead of Broncos game

On Monday, San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan admitted that the team would look to work out running backs after losing rookie Ty Davis-Price to a high-ankle sprain for several weeks. The team will also seek another quarterback, with Trey Lance's season over due to a broken ankle. Those weren't the only injuries from Sunday's 27-7 win over the Seattle Seahawks. Tight end Tyler Kroft suffered an MCL sprain and will also miss several weeks. That prompted the 49ers to work out former North Carolina tight end Garrett Walston, who signed with San Francisco as an

49ers Washed Out in Season Opener vs. Bears

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, and the demarcation between the two arrived as a wall of rain that descended upon the 49ers in their 19-10 loss against the Bears on Sunday. The first part of the game, regrettably the shortest portion, did in fact portend nothing but cheer for the 49ers as they jumped out to a 10-0 lead. Lance made several big throws early, and Elijah Mitchell began his day with five runs for 40 yards before suffering a knee injury. The 49er defense was dominant, holding the Bears' offense to five punts and an interception on their first six drives. But as the second quarter started, the winds began to turn, bringing with them a driving rain. Despite reaching the two-yard line, the 49ers weren't able to find the end zone by

The San Francisco 49ers are preparing for their Week 2 contest against the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, California. Today's biggest injury-related news is the return of tight end George Kittle to practice. He had missed the past five practices, including two this week, after suffering a groin strain on September 5. Kittle missed the 49ers' Week 1 matchup against the Chicago Bears. While he is officially listed as "questionable" for Sunday, his return to practice bodes well for his chances of a return. Head coach Kyle Shanahan said there is more optimism regarding Kittle's chances of playing compared to last week. The team will
