This first one won't come as a shock to anyone. Jimmy Garoppolo reported to the San Francisco 49ers in Santa Clara yesterday for his physical, which he passed. The veteran quarterback's days with the team are numbered, but he won't start training camp on the physically-unable-to-perform list. However, according to head coach Kyle Shanahan, Garoppolo is no longer with the team.

"He was in this morning doing his throwing program," Shanahan told reporters before Wednesday's practice, the first of training camp. "I don't think he's still here. So he came in, did that, and he got out. I'll stay in communication with Jimmy. We'll keep doing that and take it one day at a time."

Shanahan added that the quarterback did not ask to leave. Instead, he was excused by the team.

"We're saying, 'Go ahead, you don't have to be here,'" Shanahan added. "[If] he wants to be, he can, but … we understand every part of this situation. I think both sides know each side is doing as good as we can."

Update: Garoppolo was seen in the 49ers' weight room. So he has not departed the facility just yet.

The 49ers still hope to trade Garoppolo before Week 1 of the regular season, and Shanahan reiterated that remains the plan. The team hoped that would happen in March.

"There was going to be a trade, and then there was a surgery," Shanahan said.

One player San Francisco has no intentions of trading is wide receiver Deebo Samuel, despite his trade request in April. Samuel reported to training camp, and Shanahan expects the star offensive player to eventually participate in drills in the coming weeks. He just won't be doing so on Wednesday.

"He won't [participate in drills] today," Shanahan said. "I just had a good talk with Deebo. We all know there's a lot going on with Deebo right now. His representation in [agent] Tory [Dandy] with [EVP of football operations] Paraag [Marathe] and [general manager] John [Lynch], they're talking nonstop right now.

"So, we'll see what happens, but it's going to the clock, and I just had a great conversation with Deebo. … He's going to go out there and condition on the side. We'll see where he's at. Hopefully, we can figure something out soon, but we're in a good place for today."

Mike Silver on how Deebo Samuel's contract might be the starting point for a Brandon Aiyuk extension

By Al Sacco
Apr 16

With the 2024 NFL Draft less than a week away, it's common for the rumor mill to start churning, especially with players who are actively seeking a new contract. It was just two short years ago that WR Deebo Samuel requested a trade from the San Francisco 49ers prior to draft day, only for cooler heads to prevail and eventually agree to a new deal. Now, it's WR Brandon Aiyuk's turn to try and get paid and rumors surfaced over the weekend that he too would request to be dealt. While that report was quickly shot down by his agent, there's still a lot of discussion about Aiyuk's future and if other teams will come calling on draft night. San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy will be present today as the team reports for the start of its offseason program. Purdy was a little early, as he hosted a youth football camp over the weekend. Cam Inman of Bay Area News Group spoke to the 49ers quarterback during the event and asked him about one of his teammates, Brandon Aiyuk. The star wide receiver is currently in contract extension negotiations with the 49ers, and the team has emphasized keeping him around for the foreseeable future as an offseason priority. Purdy has

Deebo Samuel and Brock Purdy are why the 49ers can afford to pay Brandon Aiyuk

It's evident that the San Francisco 49ers engaged in long-term financial planning. Much discussion has centered around the feasibility of the team committing significant financial resources to two wide receivers, Brandon Aiyuk and Deebo Samuel. Some skeptics question the wisdom of such heavy investment in a single position, especially considering that the 49ers handed Samuel a substantial three-year extension merely two years ago. Adding complexity to this debate is the impending contract extension for quarterback Brock Purdy, positioning him to become the highest-paid player on the team. He will likely even become one of the NFL's highest-paid players. Where he ranks in average salary will depend upon whether he can replicate the stellar performance of his Pro Bowl 2023

Mark Schlereth talks 49ers offensive line

By Al Sacco
Apr 8

With the 2024 NFL Draft in the near future, it seems the prevailing thought around the league is that the 49ers will need to address the offensive line. While the Niners do boast one of the league's elite players in LT Trent Williams, the rest of the unit has struggled in spots. In fact, San Francisco's right tackle and both guard positions allowed a pressure percentage of over 20% in 2023. Former Pro Bowl offensive lineman and current NFL analyst Mark Schlereth joined the No Huddle podcast to discuss the current state of the o-line. He noted that when you force San Francisco out of its comfort zone, the weaknesses upfront tend to show up. "When they're down, that's where
