Deebo Samuel says 49ers have best ‘returning’ WR duo in NFL

Jul 7, 2022 at 12:20 PM--

There haven't been any updates on the Deebo Samuel front. At least, I don't think there has. I have been on vacation. But, browsing through some tweets over the last few days, the star wide receiver for the San Francisco 49ers shared what some might consider an encouraging note via Instagram.

The NFL asked fans via social media who has the best returning wide receiver duo in the league. 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk responded with "I like us Gang," tagging Samuel.

Samuel responded with, "Of course."

The key here would be the NFL asking for the best "returning" wide receiver duo in the league. It may be nothing, but the fact that Samuel responded enthusiastically is a step forward considering where he and the team were just months ago.

Earlier this offseason, Samuel had to watch as other wide receivers across the league earned big paydays while he awaited a contract extension with the 49ers. Later, the disgruntled player asked to be traded, which San Francisco refused to do. While the star wideout did not practice, he attended the 49ers' mandatory minicamp last month.

With 49ers players reporting to training camp in 19 days, a resolution to the 49ers-Deebo drama could be on the horizon.

Samuel is entering the final year of his rookie deal. His breakout 2021 season, when he racked up 1,770 all-purpose yards and 14 total touchdowns, will make him one of the highest-paid receivers in the NFL.

Javon Kinlaw last appeared in a game on September 25. According to head coach Kyle Shanahan, the defensive tackle could be nearing a return from the injured reserve list. The San Francisco 49ers have brought back six players from injured reserve this season. That leaves the team with the ability to do so again twice more. On Friday morning, Shanahan again shot down the speculation that quarterback Trey Lance could return to serve as Jimmy Garoppolo's backup if the 49ers made a deep playoff run. "He's still going through his rehab," Shanahan said on KNBR. "That would be too soon for him, so that's pretty out of the

Rapoport: 49ers and Jimmy Garoppolo open to QB returning in 2023

Could quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo return to the San Francisco 49ers in 2023? No one thought it was possible he would be on the roster for Week 1 of this season, so it's impossible to say anything with certainty about next season. "A few months after the team and Garoppolo amicably decided to move on, only to get back together again in a wild sequence of events that led to him being their starting QB once again, both sides are open to him being back for the 2023 season, sources say," wrote NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. Those "wild sequence of events" were Garoppolo undergoing offseason shoulder surgery, plummeting the 49ers' chances of trading the quarterback,

49ers-Saints: Kyle Shanahan provides details on Deebo Samuel's injury

San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Deebo Samuel was limited all week during practices as the team prepares for its Week 12 matchup against the New Orleans Saints. When head coach Kyle Shanahan spoke with reporters on Wednesday, rattling off the names of those who would not practice or be limited, Samuel's name was absent. It wasn't until the official practice participation report was released that the wideout's injury was revealed to reporters. Samuel emerged from Monday night's win over the Arizona Cardinals with a hamstring injury. Although, it wasn't immediately known. And the injury was different than the Week 7 hamstring injury that occurred against the Kansas City Chiefs and kept him out the next week against the Los Angeles Rams. "No, it was something
