49ers’ Trent Williams ‘making really good progress,’ says John Lynch

Jan 27, 2022 at 6:02 PM--

San Francisco 49ers star tackle Trent Williams is dealing with an ankle injury. It's put his status for Sunday's NFC Championship Game matchup against the Los Angeles Rams into question. However, the Niners' general manager knows better than to question a motivated Williams.

"I never doubt Trent Williams," John Lynch said Thursday on KNBR's Tolbert, Krueger & Brooks show. "I know how much this means to Trent. I believe, in his 11th year in the league, he hasn't had many opportunities in the playoffs. A guy like that, football means so much to him. He's going to do everything in his power, and Trent is doing that."

Williams has not practiced yet this week, missing Wednesday and Thursday's sessions. On Friday, the team will hold one more practice before heading to Southern California for this weekend's game.

Williams is pushing to play, and a few missed practices may not stop him. Speaking to reporters this week, head coach Kyle Shanahan was hopeful that his left tackle, arguably the best offensive lineman in football, will be on the field at SoFi Stadium protecting quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo and opening holes for running back Elijah Mitchell.

"He's doing treatment around the clock, I think making really good progress," Lynch added. "While he hasn't been on the field as of yet, I suppose 'hopeful' is the right word. But I, like Kyle, never doubt Trent Williams."

You can listen to the entire conversation with Lynch below.

Are the 49ers really underwhelmed by QB Trey Lance?

By Rohan Chakravarthi

Earlier this week, reports surfaced from FanSided reporter Matt Lombardo that the San Francisco 49ers have been "continually underwhelmed" by young quarterback Trey Lance as he approaches his second season in the NFL. Lombardo further clarified that his tweet was based upon a conversation with an executive who's "pretty tight" with the 49ers, as well as members of the coaching staff last season. Unfortunately, based on the words of multiple players on the team, as well as the coaching staff and front office, that unsubstantiated claim couldn't be further from the truth. Here's a month-by-month breakdown of the comments surrounding Lance following the season, beginning with San Francisco's post-season press conferences in early

Fred Warner believes Deebo Samuel 'loves the team' but Pelissero says 49ers, WR remain in 'standoff'

San Francisco 49ers star linebacker Fred Warner spoke with NFL Network's Tom Pelissero following the NFL's schedule release yesterday. The Pro Bowl and All-Pro defender was asked about his disgruntled teammate, wide receiver Deebo Samuel, who requested a trade this offseason. Samuel is eligible for a contract extension, but there have been no updates on that front. And the 49ers didn't grant his wish for a trade either. Warner told Pelissero that 49ers teammates, like quarterback Trey Lance and tight end George Kittle, have been in contact with Samuel since the trade request became public last month. Pelissero pressed Warner to reveal his level of confidence that Samuel is playing for the 49ers come Week 1 against the Chicago Bears. "I

The 49ers are content with Jimmy Garoppolo on their roster

San Francisco 49ers general manager John Lynch told KNBR this past Monday that the organization appeared close to trading starting quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo earlier in the offseason, but those talks came to a screeching halt when the decision was made for the 30-year old signal-caller to have surgery on his injured shoulder. Lynch later mentioned that the team continued to have dialogue surrounding Garoppolo during the NFL Draft, but it appeared teams were hoping to secure his services at a discounted price. Lynch also mentioned that teams typically don't rush out to trade for a player following surgery until they know they've made a full recovery. To me, it almost felt like

Why PFF believes 49ers signing Julio Jones makes sense

With the free-agency frenzy long gone and the NFL Draft behind us, NFL teams will move toward tweaking their rosters in preparation for the 2022 season. It's worth noting that there are still some well-known free agents awaiting offers—names like Jadeveon Clowney and Odell Beckham Jr. Veteran center J.C. Tretter might make sense for the San Francisco 49ers. The team is uncertain about the future of Alex Mack. General manager John Lynch is sounding less confident about the possibility of his starting center returning for his 14th NFL season. However, it's not Tretter that Pro Football Focus analyst Ben Linsey believes would be a good signing by the 49ers. Instead,
