49ers OC Mike McDaniel focused on beating the Cowboys, not head coaching jobs

Jan 13, 2022 at 3:44 PM--

The Miami Dolphins requested to interview San Francisco 49ers offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel for their head coaching vacancy. Obviously, that's a big opportunity for the 38-year-old coach in his first season as an offensive coordinator. However, the valuable knowledge he has learned from head coach Kyle Shanahan could soon make him a hot commodity.

McDaniel doesn't have time to think about any of that right now, though. Instead, he's focused on Sunday's road playoff game against the Dallas Cowboys. After Thursday's practice, the coordinator was asked about juggling preparing for the game and thinking about the head coaching opportunity, and his response should set 49ers fans' minds at ease.

"Yeah, it has [come to my attention], but as far as juggling, there is no juggling," McDaniel said. "It's about the Dallas Cowboys and the 49ers offense going down there and performing, and the 49ers team doing whatever it takes to try to get a W against a very good football team. And that's it."

The Cowboys are currently three-point favorites in the Wild Card matchup. Kickoff between the two teams is scheduled for Sunday afternoon.

49ers rookie Kalia Davis not molding his game after D.J. Jones

By Rohan Chakravarthi

The San Francisco 49ers begin their rookie minicamp on Friday afternoon, giving fans and media their first look at the nine rookies the team drafted, as well as the undrafted free agents the team signed or invited to camp. One player that likely will not participate in team drills is sixth-round defensive tackle Kalia Davis, who is recovering from a torn ACL he suffered last fall, which likely played a role in his falling draft stock. Davis has had an intriguing journey, playing linebacker during his freshman season before transitioning to the defensive line, which he attributed to his bigger size. "Well really, I moved from linebacker to D-lineman because my body was changing," Davis said. "I [gained] a little too much weight. The biggest part about

I'm not worried about 49ers' Trey Lance...and you shouldn't be either

San Francisco 49ers fans are fed up, and rightfully so, at the way the team's young quarterback Trey Lance is being treated in the media. For months now, there have been rumors and statements, mostly from national media types, designating Lance a bust, or suggesting the 49ers are concerned about him. As you'll recall, Lance only played ten quarters of football last season. Can ten quarters really tell us anything? Of course not. Especially when it comes to NFL rookies trying to play QB. It's baffling that this agenda is being pushed. But the ferocity at which it keeps coming is disturbing. Either the 49ers are allowing it because they believe it somehow gives them a competitive advantage, or they're pushing it to keep Jimmy Garopollo a hot commodity on the trade

Simms doubts 49ers' decision to draft Trey Lance: 'I'm not sold on his potential'

The San Francisco 49ers' second-year quarterback, Trey Lance, has been the target of much scrutiny this offseason. A lot of it seems based on the team's decision to hold onto veteran Jimmy Garoppolo without fully considering why. Garoppolo remains on the 49ers roster because no one has made a trade offer, not necessarily because the coaches doubt Lance's readiness. Of course, that could be speculation too. However, it's based on the narrative the 49ers have laid out and not the narrative created by the national media. Speaking of national media, Chris Simms of NBC Sports created some chatter after ranking Lance at No. 31 in his top 40 quarterback ranking. His

Terrell Owens calls cause of Deebo Samuel-49ers rift 'unfortunate'

Hall of Fame wide receiver Terrell Owens has some insight on the situation between the San Francisco 49ers and their current wide receiver star, Deebo Samuel. Owens recently told NBC LX that he spoke with Samuel but wasn't willing to disclose the details of that conversation. Owens did share the following, though, courtesy of NBC Sports Bay Area. "I've talked to him personally. I know what's going on," Owens said before his Fan Controlled Football game over the weekend. "I know what transpired. Until he's ready to say what happened with that situation, I just keep that between us. But it's
