49ers tackle Mike McGlinchey out for the season with torn quad

Nov 8, 2021 at 11:12 AM--

The San Francisco 49ers will be without right tackle Mike McGlinchey for the remainder of the season. According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the offensive lineman suffered a torn quad in the team's 31-17 loss to the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday.

Tom Compton replaced McGlinchey in the game. During his post-game press conference, head coach Kyle Shanahan said the 49ers would also consider rookie Jaylon Moore if McGlinchey had to miss extended time. However, the team opted against playing Moore on the right side on Sunday because Moore has been playing on the left side.

San Francisco made Moore a fifth-round draft pick out of Western Michigan in April.

The 49ers drafted McGlinchey (6-8, 310) out of Notre Dame with the No. 9 overall pick in 2018. He has 52 game appearances, all starts, through his four NFL seasons. McGlinchey's Pro Football Focus pass-blocking grade of 70.0 is a career-high. However, his run-blocking grade of 64.8 is a career-low.

The 49ers have their first notable injury of this year's training camp, but it doesn't sound like it's something of a serious nature. 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan revealed Friday morning that defensive lineman Arik Armstead sprained his MCL at practice this week and that it could require some time to recover. Armstead was missing at practice on Thursday and could be out for a while. "It's probably going to be a few weeks. Nothing we're concerned about, but we're taking some time away," Shanahan said. Shanahan said Armstead took a bruise during practice that wasn't an issue at first but flared up after practice. After going through examinations, the 49ers decided to put Armstead on the sidelines. "It didn't bother him that bad but it

49ers' Nick Bosa ready to turn training camp health into his best season yet

Given the success he's had in the NFL to this point, it's easy to forget that 49ers defensive end Nick Bosa hasn't been completely healthy heading into a training camp before this season. But, for the first time, Bosa is at 100 percent at this point in the football calendar, and it could translate into his finest season yet as a 49er. Bosa dealt with injuries during his first two training camps with the 49ers after being selected with the second overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, then spent last offseason rehabbing from a torn ACL that cost him most of the 2020 season. But he still has two Pro Bowl selections in three years under his belt and put in a dynamite performance in 2021, notching 52 tackles, 15.5 sacks and four forced fumbles. There are no injuries

The 49ers took two more hits on the defensive line Friday, with defensive tackle Maurice Hurst suffering what is likely to be a season-ending injury and defensive tackle Hassan Ridgeway sustaining a quad injury that could cost him a couple weeks of practice. News of both injuries was announced by head coach Kyle Shanahan ahead of Saturday's practice session. Hurst tore his biceps in practice while trying to tackle a runner, according to a tweet from David Lombardi of The Athletic, and will require surgery. Ridgeway took a mild quad strain that may result in him being sidelined for a couple of weeks. Hurst, 27, is in his second season with the 49ers but was limited to just
