Oct 10, 2021 at 11:56 AM--

The San Francisco 49ers have released the list of inactive players for their Week 5 matchup on the road against the Arizona Cardinals. These players will not suit up for Sunday's game.

Inactives:

On Saturday, the 49ers promoted wide receiver Travis Benjamin from the practice squad to the active roster. The team also activated tight end Tanner Hudson and quarterback Nate Sudfeld from the practice squad. Both will revert back to the practice squad after the game. Sudfeld will serve as Trey Lance's backup. Lance is starting his first NFL game in place of an injured Jimmy Garoppolo (calf).

San Francisco will also be without tight end George Kittle, who was placed on injured reserve this weekend due to a calf injury. Cornerback K'Waun Williams is also dealing with a calf injury and was never expected to return before the bye week.

Kickoff for today's game is scheduled for 1:25 p.m. PT from State Farm Stadium.

Kyle Shanahan reveals his message to Jauan Jennings after scuffle during 49ers-Jaguars

Things got a little heated during the first half of Sunday's matchup between the San Francisco 49ers and Jacksonville Jaguars. Jaguars safety Rayshawn Jenkins threw a punch that connected with 49ers wide receiver Jauan Jennings, resulting in a penalty, the defender getting ejected from the game, and keeping San Francisco's drive alive. What was head coach Kyle Shanahan's message to his young receiver after the scuffle? "I just told him, 'Great job. Now put your helmet on,'" Shanahan told reporters via a conference call on Monday. "It took him too long to hear 'put your helmet on,' but I thought, from what I saw, I saw him competing as hard as you can compete on a run play and just playing until the whistle. "Obviously, the other guy got upset with

Jauan Jennings primed for bigger role with 49ers

With the San Francisco 49ers' leading wide receiver Deebo Samuel out for 1-2 weeks with a groin strain, the door is open for other players to make an impact on offense. Through 11 games, Samuel became the first 49ers wide receiver to reach 1,000 yards receiving since Anquan Boldin in 2014. Trying to replicate the level of production Samuel provided for the 49ers will be tough to do. However, there are a few players primed to make big impacts. George Kittle is the low-hanging fruit in this discussion. While he has been limited in the receiving game this season with only 35 receptions for 425 yards and three scores, his impact has mainly been in the run game where he has become one of the premier downfield blockers in the NFL. Even with his dip in receiving

Kyle Shanahan praises 49ers' emerging stars, Elijah Mitchell and Jauan Jennings

Everyone knows wide receiver Deebo Samuel and tight end George Kittle. They are the stars of the San Francisco 49ers offense. However, to sustain success for the remainder of the season, and hopefully, deep into the playoffs, the Niners will also need to rely on their emerging stars. One of those surprising emerging stars has been rookie running back Elijah Mitchell, who has turned into the offense's workhorse and become the team's leading rusher. Mitchell has already had four games with 100-or-more rushing yards. He carried the football 27 times for 133 yards and a touchdown against the Minnesota Vikings and is now just 119 yards shy of the franchise record for the most rushing yards by a rookie (Vic Washington, 811 in 1971).
