49ers-Packers: Kyle Shanahan offers honest response to report of tension with Matt LaFleur

Sep 24, 2021 at 1:42 PM--

On Thursday, Michael Silver of NFL Network reported, via a series of tweets, that the San Francisco 49ers calling Green Bay in April to inquire about the availability of quarterback Aaron Rodgers created some drama between Kyle Shanahan and Packers head coach Matt LaFleur.

The 49ers head coach was asked about that report after practice on Friday. Does he feel there was any tension between himself and LaFleur after the inquiry?

"No, I don't," Shanahan responded. "I mean, I definitely heard about people talking about our friendship. I've got a lot of friends in this league; coaches, players, equipment managers, everybody. I've been in this league for 20 years, and you do have lots of friends, but I can promise you that friends never affect how you do your job.

"We all have jobs to do, and you all have relationships, but you always do your job and try not to think about anything else."

Earlier this week, before Silver's report surfaced, LaFleur was asked about his friendship with Shanahan and if the 49ers reaching out created a rift between the two.

"Kyle's a great friend of mine," LaFleur said via Bill Huber of SI. "Absolutely, I hold no ill will toward him."

The 49ers and Packers are scheduled to play each other on Sunday night at Levi's Stadium.

Kyle Shanahan says 'nothing's changed' with 49ers' QB situation, hopes Jimmy Garoppolo gets healthy, responds to Rapoport report

By David Bonilla

Kyle Shanahan is hopeful that his quarterback, Jimmy Garoppolo, recovers enough from his calf injury to be available after the bye week. It sounds like the quarterback will have an opportunity to return as the starter for Week 7's matchup against the Indianapolis Colts after Trey Lance started in his place this weekend. Shanahan spoke with reporters after today's 17-10 defeat at State Farm Stadium. He was asked if anything has changed regarding the team's quarterback situation. On Friday, the coach declared that Garoppolo would have been the Week 5 starter had the quarterback been healthy. "No, nothing's changed," Shanahan told reporters. "That was just one game. It was a tough loss right there, and I'm going to talk to our whole team tomorrow and think about how

Kyle Shanahan: Expect less of 49ers rookie Trey Lance in the shotgun vs. Cardinals

NBC Sports Bay Area's Greg Papa says Trey Lance has only been under center four times this season. NFL stats reports eight snaps from under center, per our own Chris Wilson. Regardless, the number is low. Three of those snaps came on passing plays against the Seattle Seahawks last weekend. The rest of the time, the San Francisco 49ers rookie quarterback has lined up in the shotgun, forcing opponents to defend him as a potential runner as well as a passing threat. Lance played most of his collegiate snaps from under center. It sounds like fans can expect him to do so again on Sunday against the division-leading Arizona Cardinals. "He'll be under center more now that he'll be playing the whole

49ers-Cardinals: Trey Lance 'disappointed' by wasted opportunities, Kyle Shanahan seeks improvement

By David Bonilla
Oct 10

The San Francisco 49ers have now lost three consecutive games after starting 2-0. They remain in last place in the NFC West as the Arizona Cardinals improve to 5-0. The game was Trey Lance's first start. Unfortunately, it didn't turn out as he hoped. The rookie quarterback was playing for an injured Jimmy Garoppolo (calf) and finished 15-of-29 for 192 yards, no touchdowns, and an interception. After the 17-10 defeat, Lance was asked how he felt about his first start. "The defense kept us in it, for sure," Lance told reporters. "I mean, the [Cardinals] offense is very explosive. They make a lot of big plays, and our defense definitely gave us a shot. So, we've got to capitalize, got to do better, make more plays. "Obviously, disappointed.

49ers' Kyle Shanahan reveals what went wrong with George Kittle's injury

By David Bonilla

George Kittle was not able to practice last week. Despite being listed as "doubtful," there remained hope that the San Francisco 49ers tight end might be able to play this past Sunday in rookie quarterback Trey Lance's first NFL start. "Everything's focused on this Sunday, and George is working his tail off to be there," general manager John Lynch said last week. "If not, it's nice that we do have a bye, and we're hopeful that time can allow him to heal enough to really lick this thing and put it behind us so he can get back in there at practice." Kittle won't return after the bye against the Indianapolis Colts. He won't return for the next game,
